Andrea Petkovic is always one who you can expect to tell it like it is. And this week the former WTA star turned TV analyst and media personality accused the WTA of incompetence of promoting its players and cited an example of a flagrant failure and missed opportunity.

“In my function as Director of Excitement, I conducted some of the on court interviews with players. I had the pleasure to interview Wang Xinyu after her semifinal win. She was hilarious, witty, smart. She had better jokes up her sleeve than most of the comedians on Netflix right now. The WTA, however, posted an edited clip of her answers that made her sound like EVERY. OTHER. PLAYER. OUT. THERE. The one thing she said about not expecting to be in the final is what they decided to post, while all the humor and personality got edited out. These are the things that drive me insane, as the player’s distinct personality is what makes the individual sport of tennis so special. Showcasing!! that personality for everyone to see though, should be the logica first step, not editing it out.”

The 23 year old Chinese woman, ranked 33 in the world, qualified for Berlin Open and then defeated Kasatkina, Gauff and Samsonova, before losing a three setter in the final to Marketa Vondrousova. Wang has won four WTA doubles titles including 2023 Roland Garros with Su Wei Hsieh.
