Pat Cash Autobiography Uncovered Dropped Truth Bombs

I’ve read a lot of tennis books and no autobiography has ever dropped more truth bombs than Pat Cash’s Uncovered which was published in 2002.

Here is the first truth bomb of when I will post many more…

“Six months earlier (1997) John McEnroe had declared that the last two remaining great bastions of communism were North Korea and the ATP Tour.” Page 253 from Pat Cash 2002 Autobiography Uncovered.

To be continued…

Bombs away…

Ivan Lendl made racist and homosexual jokes in the locker room and was generally detested by most players.

Tony Roche was John Newcombe’s puppet.

Mark “Flip” Philippoussis did not like the nickname “Scud” and drove his motorcycle in Bradenton, Longboat Key without a licence. He gave Pat a $40,000 bonus for reaching the US Open final.

Flip loved strip clubs.

Flip had more talent in his finger than Mark Woodforde had.

Anna Kournikova would make Flip call her three or four times a day to tell her how attractive she was.

Cash said, “When you are a tennis player you are the most important thing: the boss, the breadwinnner, the star. Everything must revolve around you.”

Cash threatened to “severely punch” Thomas Muster in the head the minute they got back to the locker room after a Dubai match if he kept on cheating. Muster stopped cheating but the cheating details were not revealed.

Muster was calling Woodforde a faggot during a match at Queens Club.

Muster dated Prince Andrew’s ex Sarah Ferguson.

Cash implied he and Killer Cahill “played doubles together” in a hotel room with a Viennese stringer with the “biggest breasts in the world” with the stereo volume jacked up to the max while Davis Cup teammates were “hammering on the door desperate to join the party.”

the last two remaining great bastions of communism were North Korea and the ATP Tour

What exactly did McEnroe mean by that?

  • Scoop Malinowski · December 1, 2025 at 7:48 am

Sam, McEnroe flat out accused the ATP World Tour of being communists. A most shocking revelation or opinion.

    That’s hilarious.

Cash is the biggest bomb dropper of all players, BBDOAP ) Awesome book.

@Sam I think he might have meant that rather than a free market a state-like entity instaed controled the (pro tennis) market.

Controlled and protective of the Fedal figureheads and now Sincaraz, remains to be seen if they will allow the new next Djokovic figure to invade the party. Interestingly Nadal said this week he would like to see a third player challenge Sincaraz as the game is becoming too predictable with the top two being too dominant.

In prep for Next Gen viewing I’ve been checking out the players I don’t know well. Spain has two. Jodar, a college freshman, whose been dominating and Landaluce who I’m still checking out. Maybe with ADF, Jaume plus these new guys the Spanish Armada will have new life.

  • Scoop Malinowski · December 3, 2025 at 8:40 am

Jodar has been impressive, Landaluce not as astounding but both are rising forces. Fokina it seems will always be an outsider in Spain for some reason. Maybe they can’t accept him as he’s really a Russian.

Scoop, well, he probably had good reasons for saying that.

And that makes sense, doesn’t it, Steve? 😏

McEnroe was more rebellious back then, he would have known. Stopped short of sharing details though.

If the tour was like that almost 30 years ago, it must be much worse today! 🧐

  • Sam · December 22, 2025 at 4:22 am

Break Point is like a bio and diary of a year on tour. Really good read. It pissed off some Americans like Blake, Roddick and Fish, so that tells you how good it was.

Speaking of which, does Dan Markowitz ever post on here anymore?

the WTA matches actually made the event better but I just don’t think they deserve equal prize money even if they played best of five at majors.

I could at least understand it better if they played best-of-five, but yeah, I can definitely understand your argument.

Collins was a coach eater at her peak days of hustling

“She’ll only come out at night,
    The lean and hungry type . . . .” 🐺

but I think there have been a few other coach eaters too. Too hard to keep track of this detail though.

Maybe that’s idea for a new book by you: Coach-Eaters. πŸ˜‚

No Sam Im afraid that topic is best fit for just a post comment here, my research budget can’t justify it )

  • Scoop Malinowski · December 22, 2025 at 8:12 am

Sam, that’s why PTPA is here to save the day I guess.

Sam, I saw Dan about a year ago, still out there, his son plays at Vanderbilt, he wanted to do an article on Stefan Kozlov’s great Challenger win in Champaign in November for the site of another mutual friend/colleague at http://www.tennisnow.com but I don’t think he followed through with it. Dan was very impressed by Kozlov’s play that week winning the title.
