Benoit Paire has fallen to an ATP ranking of 176 on account of his 4-22 ATP match record this year, with two of those wins coming in January at the Australian Open.
Now the 33 year old former world no. 18 is attempting to resurrect his career from ruin at this week’s Rennes Challenger, where the top seed is Hugo Gaston. Paire’s last match was at US Open two weeks ago, where he lost to Cam Norrie 60 76 60.
It has been a dreadful 2022 for the flashy, flamboyant French player who has won three ATP singles titles in his career and 241 matches (against 291 losses) since turning pro in 2007.
Paire will play in the first round against Dan Added, a 23 year old from Strasbourg ranked 177. Added has only won two ATP main tour matches in his career.
Paire’s record since Covid suspension of the ATP ended in August 2020 is 18-57. In 2019 Paire had his best year, winning a career best 34 matches and two of his titles.
It will be a good, make or break test for Paire to see if he has anything – or enough left to extend his stagnated career which once was highlighted by victories against the likes of Stan Wawrinka, Kei Nishikori, Novak Djokovic in Miami, Marin Cilic, Juan Martin Del Potro, Gilles Simon and Grigor Dimitrov.

I didnt like the look of him somehow – and I wonder how much money he really had. They did the civil ceremony but not the religious yet.

Yes I do. The two seem very attached and attentive to their daughter. If the marriage was in any way contrived then I think we would have seen cracks by now and they’ve not been apparent.
On the other hand I’d agree with you that Simona’s marriage didn’t ring true in some way – assuming the gossip is correct.
Age difference, his previous marriages, Simona continuing her career.
BTW – is Radwanska still married ? She no longer wears her wedding ring.

Re Simona – she has just had an operation on her nose, reports on her Twitter, to try to ease her breathing problems and hopes to return to tennis in a couple of months.
Makes no mention of her marriage/divorce but she hasn’t denied the divorce story so I imagine it’s true. Lawyers now talking to lawyers.
Seems to me Simona changed her attitude to several things after going to Patrick M’s academy. Maybe husband didn’t approve. No romance – Patrick married again a couple of years ago.
Could be Angie is possibly right to put the cart before the horse )

Catherine, Halep also noted she never liked her previous nose and this was also for cosmetic reasons as well as breathing functionality purposes. Or maybe one reason is a cover for the other? Don’t recall her citing breathing problems for any of her losses until now.

I recall her saying she had difficulty breathing in hot/humid weather and this may have affected her at USO. When I was younger I had something similar – deviated septum which required surgery. Ran in the family. Simona also had cosmetic reasons no doubt. Yes, she always hated her nose.

Her nose never bothered me, I think Federer had a nose job too. Probably for breathing too.
