
After losing Rafael Jodar in straight sets, wildcard Kei Nishikori was asked about navigating his way through US Open mixed doubles with Naomi Osaka and playing US Open qualies: “I’m not worried about schedule conflict between US Open mixed doubles and qualifying at all. I’m rather thinking about what to dress. If Naomi appears in awesome clothes, I should match my outfit with hers. It’s the only thing I’m worried, rather than schedule.”
Jack Draper, who pulled out of the DC Mubadala Open with a left arm injury, will take a wildcard into Canadian Open next week.
After beating Jerry Shang and losing to Jodar, Nishikori told the media he “needs more matches.” Is it possible that if he generates a deep run into a tournament or two and can regain a top 100 ranking, that he will cancel his retirement?
Anastasia Potalova handed 46 year old Venus Williams her ninth loss of the year, with no wins. Venus and Diana Shnaider did win one round of doubles before losing in straight sets.
