Lacoste CEO says Novak Djokovic wants to play until 2028 and that they will discuss a contract renewal soon. The current Djokovic/Lacoste contract ends this year. “Novak wants to go to the Olympic Games in 2028. I have no doubt that we will find common ground in the coming weeks. We mainly discuss the type of renewal. Since we signed him, he has won half of his Grand Slams with us. He contributed a lot to the brand.”
Dan Evans on Jannik Sinner’s less than three month ban: “He’s received preferential treatment.”
Coco Gauff and Alexandra Eala will play doubles together for the first time in Rome.
Fabio Fognini is playing his final Rome Masters. “I want to give space to young people, that’s right. I had a great career and I’m happy, but as in all things there is a beginning and an end.”
Naomi Osaka asserts her ego was healthy factor playing and winning the ITF in Saint Malo Challenger title, her first ever pro clay title. “You know what’s funny is, like, I keep getting asked questions like this, but in different ways. No, I mean, obviously I would have been really disappointed to lose in the first round. I guess I would think that people would say that if I didn’t win the trophy… There’s a lot of situations that could have occurred. For me, I just wanted to focus on the tennis. I wanted to rack up experience on clay. I didn’t really have too much of an ego playing that tournament. I’ve always told people that I’m okay, like, playing on Court 16 if I have to anyways. The reason I came back wasn’t to play on center courts all the time, it’s because I really enjoy the game. I just want to see, like, what I can do.”

Interestingly, Fabio has not named exactly where he’ll end his career.
Watching some of Fonseca today vs. Marozsan I was left defalted. Even though they have a similar ranking there is a notable gap in play. Marozsan is very tricky, probably the only player to out-drop shot Alcaraz for a win, you can’t just blast away against him and hope for the best. It would be nice to see Fonseca develop a plan B when plan A is not working well enough.
I had a funny thought (which must be surely wrong) that he could end up being a glorified Seyboth Wild. Awesome power but weak tactics and average foot speed.

Steve, Fonseca plays dumb brainless tennis right now, he just clobbers every ball hard as he can. That’s not going to work, the counter punchers and defensive specialists will eat him alive. I think he needs a new coach, the guy who got him to this point did a superb job. Just like Peter Carter did with Young Roger. Then Peter Lundgren took over and took him to no. 1. I like Franco Davin as a coach, he has had success with every player he touched. He was with Fonseca co coaching earlier this year and then vanished. Bring back Davin full time. Regardless if the current coach doesn’t like it or want to share glory and credit.
