Peak Monfils, and maybe this was why it felt like he should have done more, was 2014 Davis Cup where he pretty much destroyed Federer. A win Federer desperately wanted.

Great career, great sportsman and entertainer, maybe didn’t have the killer instinct, but so what. I am so thankful Monfils has been part of the game for 20 years.

Underrated sportsmanship, he deserved to win the ATP Edberg Sportsmanship award at least once. He never had any kind of issues or controversy with any players, except one time he and Fognini had some kind of tension in the first FO match about 15 years ago but they later resolved it. Other than that Monfils has been first class on court.

Was curious…the Google machine says Gasquet had 956 consecutive weeks in top 100. Close.

Impressive feat from La Monf. Most will always think he played too defensively but he entertained all. Djoker love playing him.

Le Monf played the way he wanted to, he did it his way and achieved a renowned career. As did Gasquet in a most challenging era.
