Monday at Citi Open

The first player I saw on site at credentials was dudi Sela, with his fitness guy Isaac and a new member of the entourage. The Dude had his hands full with young Korean HyeonChung who has barged his way into the top hundred. Despite four shirtless vociferous supporters with blue letters painted on their chests backing him, Dudi got chmped up by Chung 6261. I saw Chung stay overtime after his hit with Ruben Bemelmans, telling one of his three coaches to feed him more forehands which he hit to both corners till he presumably perfected his technique.

Sela seemed to target the Chung forehand in the match but it answered the challenge. At 14 in the second Dudis crew tried to inspire him with a Let’s go Dudi let’s go song chant, which evoked a big almost awed smile but it was not enough. Dudi gave the well behaved but passionate quartet a long look of appreciation but Chung was too good.

Had a god conversation with Benjamin Becker while watching the finale of Estrella vs young Chilean wildcard Nicholas Jarry who is a tall big serving riing star. Estrella won 64 in three but he had to work. Becker got hurt at Roland Barros with a torn pec from Verdascos kick serves in a second round five setter after a first round five setter. And a long dubs match in between. Becker said he likes Zverev as the best of the young teens because of his game and mentality, he has the right mentality.

Just got to site. Very hot now but the oldies are out there working, mirnyi is hitting with karlovic, zimonic is hitting. Leo mayer is getting ready outside media center window I can see him as I type this warm up now he’s talking about orange grip on his Wilson. Not a bad loss by Harrison yesterday as Duckworth has made two ATP quarters this year losing to federer in Brisbane and coric in nice. James ward is playing games but can’t name the other guy.

Zverev was sitting in chair outside press center waiting to do his presser after Marry Fish. We started biofile and he wanted to stand up to talk because he didn’t want to show disrespect. Great biofile too. Kid has the qualities of a champion.

Just watched deli Lopez practice with max mirnyi his doubles partner off and on for a couple yes. Max was doing most of the talking, icouldnt hear all of it but max seemed to be discoursing on doubles players…about player X I like his energy no mater what the score he gets your attention, he’s always doing something. As they hit max continued to do most of the talking…deli was hitting swing volleys then suddenly smashed one much much harder, max said Why not? Deli hit a nifty volley winner when max came to net, HES A PLAYER! Deli asked Max’s bro peter what he did last night, to which he answered ping pong at an Asian type place. I was told max is also retiring at us open as are ginepri, Russell. Tennis channel is filming five new bag checks, broth andersoncornet pavluchenkova. Stosur Gilles muller.

Isner hitting with college player JC araconda? Sp? Owner shirtless and quite well built. Gimelstob on court providing instruction and tactical advice for next match vs Estrella, saying Estrella will try to kick serve in ad court and don’t let him beat you down the tee. Marry fish came by fence after in shorts and TV jacket, and they had some friendly words through back fence, they’re close. Fish is definitely hanging it up in sept, no career as dubs specialist, will work for tennis channel.

Coco vandeweghe lost first on stadium to Christina McHale 62 and left court with her yonex and towel for bathroom. She returned to the court with just her towel and no yonex. In case you curious about the fate of the missing yonex, I have an educated idea. In Miami in march coco left outer court after losing first set to ula radwanska, I happened to follow her path to bathroom where on way on the footpath she brutally destructed the racquet with one violent smash onto the concrete pavement. Coco left the destroyed yonex on the ground which a kid quickly picked up as coco stepped up the steps to the portojohn. Today it seems cocos amazing skills were once again called upon, she currently is up 54 in second set vs McHale.

Scoop, how about Stevenson making desperation comeback at 34 with a new coach in Philly? Going back to Philly where her father Dr. J was on the Sixers’ championship team in 84.

Dan, Alexandra has been playing it’s in recent years, only achieving moderate success. You never know if she can pull a capriati or dokic…
