The Mexico City Open (MCO) has been named the 2024 ATP Challenger Tour Tournament of the Year, standing out among the 207 tournaments held in 48 countries. This recognition positions the MCO as a world-class event, consolidating its position as the most important professional tennis tournament in Mexico City and the third most important nationwide.
The MCO is a 125-level tournament, the second highest of the ATP Challenger categories, awarding 125 ATP ranking points to singles and doubles champions, in addition to a prize fund of $164,000. In 2024, it was one of three 125-level tournaments in the Americas and the only one in Mexico City, reaffirming its prestige on the continent.
A world-class event
Since its inaugural edition in 2022, the MCO has attracted elite international tennis players such as Marc-Andrea Huesler (Switzerland), Nicolás Jarry (Chile), Dominik Koepfer (Germany), Boris Arias (Bolivia), and Thiago Tirante (Argentina). In the 2024 edition, Thiago Tirante was crowned singles champion, while Americans Ryan Seggerman and Patrik Trhac took the doubles title, highlighting the tournament’s competitiveness and appeal to players from around the world.
The event will be held at the Club Deportivo Chapultepec (CDCH), the first tennis stadium in Mexico and the only one in Mexico City. Located in the Polanco area, this venue features a 2,600 m² commercial area, swimming pools, views of the Reforma Towers and Chapultepec Castle, and capacity for 650 vehicles, offering an unparalleled experience for the more than 10,000 visitors who attended the 2024 edition.
Recognition of organizational excellence
The Tournament of the Year award recognizes excellence in organization, quality of facilities, player service, operation, attendance, and overall experience. In 2023, the MCO was already considered one of the top five tournaments in the world, and in 2024, it reached the top spot. This achievement was made possible thanks to a team of more than 350 people, whose creativity, commitment, and experience guarantee the quality of the event.
The impact of the Mexico City Open
The MCO is not just a sporting competition, but a high-impact event for Mexico City. It has revitalized the capital’s sporting offerings, attracting thousands of local and regional fans, with an attendance of close to 10,000 visitors by 2024. Furthermore, the event contributes to Mexico City’s international presence, positioning it as a host of world-class sporting events.
