Lopez Iron Man Streak Ends At Roland Garros Qualies

The all time pro tennis record of playing in 79 consecutive Grand Slam main draws by Feliciano Lopez has ended.

Lopez lost today in the first round of Roland Garros qualies 61 76 to 24 year old Italian Gian Marco Moroni. Lopez will not play in the 2022 Roland Garros main draw.

The incredible streak of playing Grand Slam main draws was started by Lopez in 2002 at Roland Garros. But the symmetry of Lopez playing in 80 straight Grand Slam main draws over 20 years was compromised by the cancellation of 2020 Wimbledon because of the pandemic (or scamdemic or plannedemic, whatever your personal belief may be). Lopez would have competed at 2020 Wimbledon.

The 40 year old Lopez, winner of seven ATP singles and six double titles, and former holder of the world no. 12 ranking, is currently ranked 111.

The 2016 Roland Garros doubles winner has competed at Roland Garros 21 times in his career. His best singles result was fourth round in 2004.
