Leandro Riedi: From $25k To US Open 4R in One Month!

The biggest surprise of the 2025 US Open so far has been Leandro Riedi. One month ago, the 23 year old Swiss slugger was losing in the first round at a $25,000 in Edwardsville, IL to Evan Bynoe 46 23 ret. – Bynoe is ranked 1018.

But Riedi managed to get a wildcard into Cincy qualies despite being ranked 522. In Cincy Riedi beat Carreno Busta and Lloyd Harris before a first round main draw defeat to Learner Tien.

Again, Riedi got lucky to get into US Open qualies and he capitalized on the opportunity by winning all three rounds in straight sets last week versus Garrett Johns, Otto Virtanen and Pavlicec.

Riedi was ranked 117 a year ago but must have had some kind of injury setback. He returned in May.

At the US Open the six-foot-3, 171 pounder Riedi has emerged into a future star candidate. In the first round of main draw he beat Pedro Martinez. Then in the second round, from two sets down he upset Francisco Cerundolo – it was his first five set match. Then yesterday Reidi beat Kamil Majchrzak who had to quit the match in the first set, due to fatigue from his previous round five set upset of Karen Khachanov.

Suddenly this unknown from Switzerland with the heavy power on both wings and the backward cap, is into the fourth round of a Grand Slam. For his New York exploits, Reidi has earned $457,200 and he’s not finished quite yet. Alex de Minaur awaits Monday for a slot in the QF vs Rublev or Felix.

Right now Riedi is ranked 435 but the former journeyman has made his enormous breakout statement and he is now one to watch.

“It’s a crazy feeling. I don’t really feel it yet. It’s still a little bit weird to be in the second week.”
