WTA world no. 1 Aryna Sabalenka will play men’s ATP world no. 652 Nick Kyrgios in a special eherevent match billed as the fourth edition of “Battle of the Sexes.”
The match is being organized by Evolve, a sports marketing managment agency that represents both athletes – the showdown will take place December 28 at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai.
The previous official Battle of the Sexes clashes were Bobby Riggs beating Margaret Court, Billie Jean King beating Riggs (both in the 1970s) and finally Jimmy Connors defeating Martina Navratilova in 1991 in Las Vegas.
There have been several unofficial Battle of the Sexes matches such as Kaarste Braasch beating Venus and Serena Williams in practice sets at Australian Open in the 1990s and David MacPherson beating Navratilova in a practice match at Laurel Oak Tennis Club in Sarasota, FL.
Donald Trump offered a $1m winner take all to John McEnroe and Serena Williams but Williams declined to take the challenge.
