Kyrgios Creates Chaos and Cassius Clay Tennis at Miami Open

No photo description available.

MIAMI — Nick Kyrgios dominated Serbian Dusan Lajovic 6-3 6-1 at the Miami Open last night but a confrontation with a fan overshadowed the brilliant performance by the controversial Aussie.

A male fan in the front row behind the baseline was heckling Kyrgios repeatedly. Then the unnamed fanatic called Kyrgios a four letter word that begins with D and ends with K. That flamed the fire.

“At the change of ends he literally just said ‘you’re a dick’,” Kyrgios told the media after his impressive triumph over Lajovic, who beat Nishikori in the second round. “And I was like I don’t quite understand the context of it. You’re sitting here you paid good money to watch me on a Sunday night so you obviously don’t have anything else to do and then he’s like you’re a dick…

“And then he was like come here and say it and I was like no because I have to play and then I don’t know it just kept going.”

The troublemaker white man in his 40s, wearing a blue polo shirt, was inevitably ejected from the stadium. Other fans applauded his removal by security and two police officers.

Kyrgios was unfazed by his latest controversy. “I had a bit of fun with it,” Kyrgios said. “I knew I was gonna get him kicked out and I love it. I love every single bit of it. I think the crowd loved it. It was a lot of fun. I thought they saw good tennis as well.”

“I think tennis needs stuff like this to be honest It’s fun. I thought the crowd loved this match I had a lot of fun. I mean I don’t mind. If anything he got me going a little more. I played really well tonight Im really happy with the way I played.”

The match featured Nick playing some of his finest tennis, in total control, and even showboating with underhand serves, no-look shots, drop shots.

Nick Kyrgios was Muhammad Ali last night with an overmatched foe, showing off his own versions of the Ali Shuffle and Rope A Dope and windmill punches.

I said it before and will say it again…Nick Kyrgios is Cassius, Dennis Rodman and Marcelo Rios, all for the price of one.

MIAMI OPEN STATEMENT REGARDING FAN INCIDENT

March 25, 2019

During the second set of Sunday evening’s match between Nick Kyrgios and Dusan Lajovic, a fan seated behind the baseline began making inappropriate comments towards Mr. Kyrgios, which on several occasions interrupted play and provoked a reaction from the player and the crowd. Ushers and Hard Rock Stadium security responded quickly and asked the fan to leave the stadium. Upon refusal to leave, local law enforcement officers were summoned and escorted the man in question from the tournament site.
