Iga’s Illogical Schedule Stance

Iga Swiatek believes there are too many tournaments in the WTA season… “I think we have too many tournaments in the season. It’s not going to end well.. It makes tennis less fun for us.. we deserve to rest a little bit more.”

The WTA world no. 1 may need a break from playing. She has won 47 matches this year and five titles (22 overall in her career) and over $31m in prize money. Right now she’s in the second set of the Cincy final vs Sabalenka, down a set.

If there’s too many tournaments on the WTA schedule, which ones should be canceled? For the countless amount of players striving and dreaming to be successful pros, there’s actually not enough opportunities out there for them. Do you think any pro players like the idea of traveling to Tunisia or Egypt to try to earn ranking points at those low level ITF tournaments?

For Swiatek to be criticizing the WTA for overplaying the players in too many tournaments is silly and it indirectly implies the WTA should cancel some tournaments and deals with sponsors.

Iga’s complaining words also suggest to tennis fans, that some players don’t always like or want to play – a bad message. There are millions of people and tennis players who would love to be able to play in Iga’s shoes.

Swiatek is free to take an extended vacation or announce an injury and let other players take her spot on the WTA Tour.

The establishment needs to take immediate action and silence Swiatek and all players from complaining about the WTA schedule. Because it contradicts everything the Tour stands for.

Just more evidence of WTA dysfunction. Sabalenka won 63 61 on the tenth match point. Sabalenka is also a controversial figure in the WTA as her boyfriend jumped out of window to his death in Miami in March.

It was her ex-boyfriend and I don’t quite know what that’s got to do with the WTA. Her private life surely.

Swiatek is showing signs of fatigue and nothing is preventing her from taking a rest. Her whole approach needs a reset. She should take a hard look at her team and sack that ‘psychologist’. Aryna exposed Iga’s flaws and ripped through her increasingly stereotyped game.

And why doesn’t Iga take leaf out of Raducanu’s strategy book: just don’t play anywhere.

Catherine, Iga is in her own world, not expecting her to do well at US Open. Mental state seems off.

Catherine, In defense of Iga, Sabalenka, like Rybakina, has always given her big trouble. Iga’s struggles could also be related to not being allowed to “play freely” again.
