Federer Finishes Second At Yonkers Raceway

Last night at the harness racing contested at Yonkers Raceway in Yonkers, NY, a racing horse named “Federer” competed in the third race, a one mile pace for a prize of $16,000.

The race featured horses that were non-winners of $7,500 in their last five races. Federer had placed fourth, second and second in his last three starts.

Last night, Federer continued his trend of coming close but no cigar – Federer finished in second place to the betting favorite Hazardos. Federer paid $2.60 to place (second) and $2.10 to show (third place). Hazardos paid $3 to betters who wagered $2 on him to win the race.

Jason Bartlett was the driver in the harness for Federer last night on the historic dirt track located a couple of miles north of Yankee Stadium on the Major Deegan Expressway.

Also, in the first race of the night, another horse with a tennis related name – “Stormy Serena” – finished in second place to winner “Jenden Strike A.”

On Monday evening there was another horse with a tennis name competing at Yonkers Raceway. “Jimmy Connor B” finished in third place in the fourth race, behind winner “Twig” and second placer “Mach N Cheese.”

Yonkers Raceway was founded in 1899.

I once worked with a total sports fanatic and he said Preakness was the greatest sporting event one could attend. Ever cover it?

Steve, No I only covered Hambletonian and Monmouth Stakes but I heard from another reporter Belmont was a fantastic event to cover. So maybe Preakness is on par. Horse racing offers media excellent meals.
