Federer Analyzes and Coaches Zverev On How To Win A Grand Slam

Alexander Zverev has a new coach – Roger Federer has generously offered the German star on what he needs to do to win his first Grand Slam title. Federer would know, he’s won 20 Grand Slam titles…
Roger Federer has detected some flaws in Zverev’s mindset and tactical philosophy ‘To win a Grand Slam, you have to play far more offensively… the title doesn’t just come to you. When I watch him play, I see someone who plays far too passively, far too defensively in the decisive moments. Against the best players in the world you have to take the initiative and play offensively. He didn’t do that against Fritz (at 2023 US Open QF). There’s not much missing. But to win a Grand Slam you have to trust your shots and play more offensively. He has to believe in this path. Every cell in your body has to feel that this is the only right way. The title doesn’t just come to you, especially not the first one.”
Zverev’s accepted the counsel graciously but suggested if he executes his arsenal properly, he will join the Grand Slam pantheon of elites: “That’s nothing I don’t know. It’s absolutely clear to me that I didn’t play the way I want to play. That was a terrible game from me. That’s why it’s completely okay what Roger said.”
Both Federer and Zverev are in Germany this week for the Laver Cup competition.

This guy has had the best coaches on the planet and never listened. We’ll see if he believes down in his soul that he can win a slam.

Steve he listened but maybe he just doesn’t have the sufficient fire and obsession to be the best, another ferrer Raonic enqvist martin corretja type.

Check out his quote:
Speaking about his coaching team, Zverev stated,
“Papa is better than Lendl. For me, that’s not a question at all. I think it was an experience for me to see what and how other coaches think about my tennis.”
–I think the reason you get a former slam champ as a coach to get over the hurdle psychologically and strategically. Daddy’s not getting it done.

Zverev is top 5 he doesn’t really need a coach at this point. hard to find someone who has the wisdom and exp and most of all, who really cares about the player and not the check so much.

Wasn’t Murray 0-4 in slam finals before Lendl?

…and to lose to his former coach, Ferrero, and his protege in the French Open final says a lot.

Yes Murray was 0-4, lost Wimbledon and then at his next Grand SLam US Open he finally won his elusive first Grand Slam. Agassi was 0-3 in his first three finals of majors.

Steve, Zverev just doesn’t have enough to go all the way. At this point, gonna have to write him off as a Grand Slam winner threat. He will go down in that discussion of best players to never win a major. Hope he proves me wrong.
