Eddie Herr Day Three: Genie Bouchard – Felix Auger – Tauziat and Punnin

12289697_10206524480244014_114383901486273830_nFelix won again comfortably. But the German fifteen year old Rudolph Molleker lost a third set tiebreaker to a sixteen year old Chinese kid Wu – boy what a battle. I was sitting next to a German Head guy and he said Rudolph is very good hitter but he next needs to work on building the weapon and variety – adding slices changing speeds angles etc. Rudolph was down 4-1 in the breaker but fought back all the way to 5-6. The Head guy Hubert said that Karsten Braasch coaches in Germany.

I saw the Thai girl again Punnin Kovapitukted and she dismantled a hard hitting flat hitting Chinese girl in the 12s with her lefty variety of flat and top and change of speeds – it’s just incredible to see a twelve year old girl play so intelligently and be so cool under pressure. She plays with a Babolat because she loves it – but Babolat does not sponsor her – they better take a look at this girl and fast. Punnin’s dad Sakchai said she played with Vika Azarenka two year ago in Thailand and she also beat the #2 seed (the red head Croat lefty) in a practice set at the hotel 75 after being down 52. Her other coach is an Italian Lucien.

Natalie Tauziat – the top French player in the 90s is here coaching a girl – as is Larisa Neiland Savchenko who lives in Latvia for the last two decades. Larisa talked about Facing Steffi – she had her in the third set 3-0 in the Seoul Olympics but blinked and suddenly it was over. Larisa said she didn’t recall how many times she played or even her total doubles Majors won – she’s a pretty funny lady She had the best volleys in her day. As we finished talking I saw Hana Mandlikova sitting in a lawn chair watching her kid play through the fence – tennis legends all over the place.

Genie Bouchard was hitting on the first court with Coach Hogstedt – five boys were watching her. She did a double session – focusing on her serve the part of practice I saw. I saw a Russian and Colombian parent both get tossed – I was told the Russian guy didn’t like the other guy encouraging his kid and “wanted to fight” – that’s the only trouble I’ve seen here outside of a 10s match where the kids were both hooking each other.

Pat Harrison was working with Michaela Krajicek who is back playing good singles – she’s in the top 200 again after four knee operations. Pat said Texas A&M coach Steve Denton is here recruiting and he’s staying at his house nearby. Denton played McEnroe and we’re gonna talk about that. 12289717_10206524489804253_3075752687784291480_n12346382_10206524485684150_8759620183514858516_n12108019_10206524475763902_4243180434279209496_n Also I spoke again with Andrea Temesvari about Facing Steffi – right after her girl Dalma Galfi went on for doubles – she said she had to talk to the girls first before they went to court for doubles and when she was done with that and ready to talk Steffi I nosily asked her what she advised the two Hungarian girls to do and she said to go for the short balls and go forward and attack – don’t just sit back and trade cross court rallies – think to do different things – interesting professional advice – you only get here at tennis-prose.com.

That’s Rudolph just a short bit after his loss – I couldn’t get any action shots because it was a court too far away – so this will have to do –

Scoop, are you serious, there’s a 10U division/competition at Eddie Herr? I’ve never heard of such a thing. I thought National events didn’t start in junior tennis until age 12.

I’d be interested in learning how many scholarships these college programs that are there have? I’ve heard getting a tennis scholarship for an American junior player is very difficult because a lot of programs don’t have a lot of scholarship money and also many of those scholarships go to international players.

How many courts do they have at the IMG, must be over 50, what will the impact be of the new USTA center in Orlando, I think they are going to have a lot of courts as well–is it sustainable?

Hi Ace; i didn’t take video – just have a bunch of photos – of her Weds practice – I did not see her the 2x today that I went to the court she used the other days – perhaps she took today off – or I missed her today – but I think she took the day off because nobody was talking about her – the other days people told me when she was there – it created buzz —
