Djokovic Answers My Question In Astana

By Scoop Malinowski

Via a correspondent in Astana, Novak Djokovic gave a very revealing, thoughtful answer to my question which she asked at the press conference after the 61 61 victory vs Cristian Garin…

“2021 was probably the best year of your career, 2022 may have been even better but it was interrupted by politics, do you feel 2023 can possibly be the best season of your career?”

Djokovic replied: “Well… it’s a possibility [laughs]. It’s always a possibility that I’ll have the best season. But again, things are not always dependent on me. There are other players also playing very strong. They have big intentions and goals. So, also, I’m not playing the full season that I used to play. So I’m kind of focusing on the big events and where I would like to play. That’s different. So my season next year will probably not be looking like my best seasons when I played a lot of tournaments. But let’s see. I’m not sure, to be honest, at the moment. I know I want to play all the Grand Slams. That’s one thing that I know for sure. That I want to prepare and play my best tennis at those Grand Slams. And then all the rest of the tournaments I’ll adjust accordingly.”

Thank you for sharing this Scoop Malinowski. Such a gracious and humbling reply from Djokovic. I do hope that he will play at the AusOpen’23 and that he will be allowed in considering that it all started from there literally.
