Andre Agassi is helping to coach Holger Rune at the 2025 Mubadala Citi Open in Washington, DC. Video of them together on the practice court with current longtime coach Jan Christiansen looked like Rune has decided to invite Agassi for a trial run to gauge if the American tennis legend can help improve his game and results. Agassi has previously helped coach Grigor Dimitrov, Novak Djokovic, Stefan Kozlov, Sebi Korda, Genie Bouchard.
Qinwen Zheng will miss the rest of the summer hard court season and probably into Fall as she has apparently had an elbow surgery. Zheng posted one of those hospital bed photo ops on her social media. Those hospital bed photos are starting to look like publicity stunts. Why do players feel the need to prove they are actually in a hospital bed? It’s not like anyone or the player’s sponsors wouldn’t believe them.
Gael Monfils and Nick Kyrgios will play doubles together at Mubadala Citi Open which runs from July 19-27. Kyrgios is a former Citi Open champion and heroic figure, beloved for his unforgettable champion run which featured his asking fans in the front row for serving location advice which helped him to win the title.
Americans Ben Shelton and Frances Tiafoe will also unite for doubles.
Karue Sell got the chance to hit with Danill Medvedev yesterday. Sell is in the qualies, as is wildcard Bernard Tomic.
Venus Williams will also play the Citi Open as a wildcard. She hasn’t won a match in over a year. She last played Citi Open in 2022. The 45 year old former world no. 1 said: “There’s something truly special about DC… I can’t wait to compete there again!”
Frances Tiafoe and Dan Evans trained together on stadium court yesterday.
Other Citi Open main draw wildcards include Mackenzie McDonald Ethan Quinn, Victoria Mboko of Canada.
Tickets are sold out for the entire 2025 Citi Open, for the fifth straight year. A limited number of outer court passes are available.
Citi Open Chairman Mark Ein is excited with his 2025 player field: “Thrilled about our player field for the Mubadala Citi DC Open this year. It might be the best one yet! Seven top 10 players/5 Grand Slam Champions/The Top 9 US Men/2 former No. 1’s/5 DC Champions and so many Fan Favorites.”
Taylor Fritz, Reilly Opelka, Tommy Paul, Jess Pegula, Amanda Anisimova, Lor Musetti, Emma Raducanu, Naomi Osaka, Alex deMinaur, Andrey Rublev, Emma Navarro and Paula Badosa will all play the historic tournament.

Did Brooksby get a wild card?
Seems like doubles is getting a big push this year by singles players.
Scoop Malinowski · July 21, 2025 at 4:31 pm
Brooksby is in by PR. Yes doubles is being pushed this year and this Venus dubs match is a packed house. Kyrgfils lost first set.

Interesting Venus suddenly has this new media friendly personality with scripted talking points after years of being introverted and contained. Perfect timing for this big production comeback story! #MubadalaCitiDCOpen

Sinner trolls his detractors by re-hiring Umberto Ferrara.
Scoop Malinowski · July 24, 2025 at 9:04 am
Or he has some kind of leverage on Sinner to unveil the secrets?
Sam · July 29, 2025 at 3:23 am
At this point, I really don’t see how Sinner has any fans at all. His dishonesty seems to be about as subtle as a bulldozer. 🚜 🤑
Scoop Malinowski · July 29, 2025 at 10:24 am
Sam, it does not appear he has any fans. They don’t show up and support him at tournaments like Fonseca has inspired. Sinner justhas a lot of bots on twitter who defend him and carrot costumed clowns who get paid to show up and support him once in a while. I don’t know anyone who is a big fan of him but I do know many people who adore Djokovic, Fed, Rafa and Carlos.

Scoop, while some athletes become the “people’s champions,” it seems like Sinner is the “AI champion.” 🤖
Scoop Malinowski · August 6, 2025 at 9:10 am
Yep, a manufactured scripted AI robot champion who they forgot to give a personality or soul.
Sam · August 15, 2025 at 3:10 am
It’s interesting to speculate what will become of Sinner. Will he be able to keep up his tainted reign for the indefinite future, or will he end up getting his just deserts quicker than we imagine? 🤔
Scoop Malinowski · August 15, 2025 at 8:38 am
Sam, Sinner is here to stay. To 25 grand slams is my guess.
