Carlos Fires Ferrero

Carlos Alcaraz on splitting with long time coach Juan Carlos Ferrero: It’s very difficult for me to write this post… After more than seven years together, Juanki and I have decided to end our time together as coach and player. Thank you for turning childhood dreams into realities. We started this journey when I was barely a kid, and throughout all this time you’ve accompanied me on an incredible journey, on and off the court. And I’ve enjoyed every step of it so much with you. We’ve managed to reach the top, and I feel that if our sports paths had to part ways, it had to be from up there. From the place we always worked toward and always aspired to reach. There are so many memories that come to mind that picking just one wouldn’t be fair. You’ve helped me grow as an athlete, but above all as a person. And something I value so much: I’ve enjoyed the process. That’s what I’ll hold onto, the path we’ve traveled together. Now times of change are coming for both of us, new adventures and new projects. But I’m certain we’ll face them the right way, giving our best, as we’ve always done. Always adding up. I wish you all the best from the heart in everything that comes. I’m left with the peace of mind of knowing we didn’t hold anything back, that we gave everything we had for each other. Thank you for everything, Juanki!

Ferrero’s statement: Thank you, Carlos, for the trust, the effort, and for making your way of competing make me feel so special I wish I could have continued. I am convinced that good memories and good people always find a way to cross paths again. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

So what’s the real reason here? I heard that “they” didn’t decide to end it, but Carlos did. 🤔

My interpretation is Carlos just outgrew Ferrero. Ive read info that Ferrero wanted to control where he trained (to promo his academy) and didnt want the reduced percentage for his salary. The brother wants to be the main coach. Ferrero didn’t accept the terms with a 48 hour deadline. There’s been a lot of smokescreens thrown out there but I think the bottom line is Carlos just doesn’t need the headache or Ferrero anymore. Ferrero needs Carlos far more than Carlos needs him. Ferrero did a fabulous job to create such a super champion but his job is finished. He should have accepted Carlos’s terms, he’s the boss.

That makes sense—thanks for the explainer.

Sam I would not even be surprised if the Ferrero knee surgery that he had to miss AO24 was a hoax and they told Ferrero to stay home.

Scoop, so Carlos’s “hamstring” prevented him from being able to do Davis Cup, and Ferrero’s “knee” kept him out of Australia? Well, they need to get a little more creative with their excuses. 👨🏼‍🎨

I liked Star Wars, just the first one. Yes it certainly was a big deal in 1977, as was Rocky and Jaws and Halloween and Fast Times At Ridgemont High

Wait, that last one didn’t come out till ’82! 😏 I never saw it, but I do remember the Jackson Browne song from it.

I think every ATP player is against it – how could anyone not be?

    That’s true, Scoop.

in fact Ginger said the lesser billed men in those films got a lot more money than she did, which is clearly very unfair.

Yes, that would be a clear case of sexism.

I am reading her book Ginger My Story which I found for $2, hoping she would mention her US Open mixed doubles adventure but so far nothing about it. She did mention tennis a few times, she was a fantastic player, she had the only clay court in southern California and BJK, Pancho Gonzales, Gussie Moran and others would use it.

Had no idea she was so into tennis! 😮

At least they aren’t playing the mental health or arthritis or Sjogrens syndrome cards. I guess Venus cured herself of Sjogrens, the phantom disease only she was afflicted by.

Ginger Rogers loved tennis, wish I could go in a time machine and interview her about it. Unfortunately the tennis media never did back then and so we know nothing about her tennis adventures.
