Can Djokovic Murray Solve The Machac Puzzle?

Novak Djokovic’s new head coach Andy Murray twice played Tomas Machac in 2024 and suffered close losses in both duels, 57 46 in Marseille and 75 57 67 in Miami.
So Murray will probably have to study hours of video of Machac to try to formulate a gameplan to put a halt to the sensational progress by this lethal 24 year old Czech Republic dynamo who is currently ranked 25 in the world.
Djokovic has fared only a little better against Machac than Murray has. Djokovic barely won the first encounter with Machac in 2023 in Dubai 63 36 76 and then lost the second meeting last year in Geneva hard 46 60 16.
Murray and Djokovic together have lost three matches in a row to Machac, who is coached by former Grand Slam doubles champion Daniel Vacek.
The storylines for this classic showdown of the ten time Australian Open champion and the disheveled looking baseline grinder are fascinating. The 37 year old all time heavyweight king of tennis vs. the ambitious, hungry welterweight contender with blazing foot speed, a knockout punch forehand and an uncanny ability to rise to the occasion and slay the greatest legends of the era.
Earlier this year at United Cup, the eccentric, intelligent and humble Machac was asked his goals for 2025. He replied with a smile: “For me to keep playing the best tournaments in the world against the best players, try to get better and better. Let’s see what my peak will be.
So to do the math, Murray and Djokovic together are a combined 1-3 vs Machac.

Machac moves like The Big Cat –Miloslav Mecir. He’s always on balance and moves quietly. Will be exciting to see what the new brain-trust cooks up against him
