First Tennis Memory:  “I used to go to the US Open every year to watch with my parents. Started playing through that. My parents played a little. Got more and more into it as I got older and older. I’ve had a lot of fun through tennis.”

Tennis Inspirations:  “Sampras and Agassi. Every kid my age looked up to one of them. Both of them had a lot of influence on my game and how I played.”

Nicknames:  “Don’t know if I have any.”

Hobbies/Interests:  “Play a lot of basketball when I’m home. Well, not very much because I don’t want to get hurt anymore. Hang out with my friends. Going back to Charlottesville, VA – my college town.”

Last Book Read:  “Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.”

First Car:  “Honda (blue).”

First Job:  “I’d say this would probably be it, yeah.”

Favorite Ice Cream Flavor:   “Chocolate chip peanut butter cookie dough.”

Greatest Career Moment:  “Semifinals of Wimbledon (2016) And winning first ATP title (Washington DC in 2012 with Inglot vs Anderson/Querrey 76 67 10-5). So far those were the best moments. But hopefully a lot more to come.”

Most Painful Moment:  “Losing in the semis at Wimbledon.”

Favorite Tournaments:  “US Open for sure. Special place. The night matches and atmosphere. Nothing better than playing at the US Open I think.”

Closest Tennis Friends:  “Somdev Devvarman. One of my best friends. We went to college together (Virginia).”

Funniest Player Encountered:  “I’d say I’m probably the funniest player there is [laughs]. (Why you?) Well, I’ve got some good jokes.”

Fiercest Competitors Encountered:  “At this level everybody is a fierce competitor.”

Favorite Athletes To Watch:  “Novak Djokovic. Roger Federer. Rafa Nadal. Andy Murray. All the top guys are so much fun to watch. LeBron James. Manny Pacquiao.”

Embarrassing Tennis Memory:   “The first match I ever played at a tournament, I lost love and love. And my dad parked the car and came back and saw I was down 6-0 5-0 already. So I lost love and love the first match I ever played in. (How old were you?) Nine years old. (Remember the name of the kid who beat you?) Joey Rivera. (Did you ever get revenge?) Yeah, I did. A couple years later. Beat him in three sets.”

Strangest Match:  “In Prostejov, Czech Republic it was hailing during the match. I think it was like four or five degrees celsius and hailing during the match and we just kept playing through it. They were like, ‘Oh yeah, it’s just raining on clay. It’s fine.’ We’re like, ‘This isn’t rain.'”

Pre-Match Feeling:  “I think about just going out there and trying to have some fun. Play some good tennis.”

Which Match Did You Feel Your Best:  “Every now and then it feels like you’re hitting the ball well but not one match in particular more than another.”

Why Do You Love Playing Tennis:  “Something I’ve done my whole life and remember a lot of memories as a kid. Enjoy it. And still enjoying playing right now. I think it’s a lot of fun to play a sport I love. Run around and hit some balls – I think it’s great. Good fun being out there. Playing the best in the world. Can’t complain.”

People Qualities Most Admired:  “I feel like somebody that has good character, polite and nice guy but intense both on the court and off the court.”
