Biofile Marcelo Melo Interview

By Scoop Malinowski

Status: Won Wimbledon doubles 2017 and Roland Garros 2015. Ranked ATP no. 1 in 2017. Winner of 35 ATP doubles titles including 9 Masters 1000s.

DOB: September 23, 1983 In: Belo Horizonte, Brazil

Ht: 6-3 Wt: 207

First Tennis Memory:  “I used to follow my brother Alex around to lessons. And it was a big deal if I could hit the ball over the fence. I was really happy when I could hit the ball over the fence. Also, playing at my club in Brazil, when I was little, six or seven years old.”

Tennis Inspirations:  “My family, to be honest. Both of my brothers played, one is my coach now. My father and mother play as well. Every weekend I was watching them play. So it was my inspiration to become a tennis player.”

Last Book Read:  “Paulo Coelho.”

Greatest Sports Moment:  “Was winning Wimbledon 2017 (with Lukasz Kubot). And the Davis Cup, beating Bryans in U.S. (2013).”

Most Painful Moment:  “Sometimes you have a lot of hard ones. It could be losing the tie in Davis Cup Brazil against Russia (2011), one point away to come back to the World Group after eight years. Or losing US Open final in 2018.”

First Famous Tennis Player You Met Or Encountered:  “Probably Guga. I saw him in Brazil.”

Closest Tennis Friends:  “Thomaz Bellucci from Brazil. Alexander Zverev. And Bruno Soares as well.”

Funniest Player Encountered “Let me see, I need to think about it.”

Favourite Tournament:  “Wimbledon.”

Strangest Match:  “Was one in Wimbledon, 2007 or 2008, against Kevin Ullyett and Paul Hanley. We won 28-26. We saved three match points. Did one overhead with the frame, the ball goes to another court and almost comes back to my side. And then at the end we won 28-26. It was my first Wimbledon.”

Embarrassing Tennis Memory:  “It could be in Sao Paulo, one little boy called me ‘uncle’. I said, ‘Why?’ He said, ‘Because you look like 40.’ And I’m like 29. It was funny. The kid was like five years old.”

Current Car:  “Grey Fiat Bravo.”

Favourite Sport Outside Tennis: “Football.”

Three Athletes You Like To Watch & Follow  “In tennis, Roger (Federer). I always take the chance to come see him play. In soccer, it used to be Ronaldo, ‘The Phenomenon’; and Usain Bolt.”

People Qualities Most Admired:  “This is a good question. For me, it’s the people when they fight from the first point to the end of the match, when talking about tennis. People, like I said, Roger, or sometimes other players. Even soccer, sometimes you’ll see the guy fighting from the first minute to the end. No matter if he’s playing bad that day, whatever. Try to come back over a bad situation. If you fight from the first point to the end, that’s what I want to see.”

    Mr. MELOdrama!!! 😹

Maybe poor Marci wanted Djokovic to kiss the boo-boo on his back and make it all better. 😉

Melo hit the very bad volley which Djokovic slammed and hit him. Full blame goes on Melo for the bad volley, he should be complaining to himself about his bad volleys, not to the media.
