First Tennis Memory: Sitting next to the court and watching my parents play and getting a chopped up racquet that was sawed in half because I was about two and a half years old. And just trying to hit the ball around. That’s my first memory [smiles].
First Famous Player You Met Or Encountered: That’s a tough one. I was ten years old when my parents took me to Wimbledon for the first time. And the person that walked by me and I also got to see on centre court was Roger Federer. He was playing Marat Safin. Federer won in four sets.
Last Book Read: I can’t remember the name of it. It’s a book on wealth and how to become wealthy.
Current Car: BMW 1 series (white).
Greatest Career Moments: Playing Federer on centre court at Wimbledon. Qualifying for my first Grand Slam at US Open (2018). And unbelievable match on center court against Gael Monfils (2018). One of my biggest wins.
Most Painful Moment: Also a good moment, learned a lot from it, is Montreal ATP 1000 (2018), lost to Youzhny 67 76 76 in the qualifying first round. I think it was very tough for me at that moment but I learned so much from that over my career.
Favorite Sport Outside Tennis: Gotta be rugby.
Three Athletes You Like To Watch & Follow: Stan Wawrinka. Tiger Woods. And Harry Kane.
Funny Tennis Memory: A lot of things make me laugh…I’m trying to think of a good one [laughs]…
Funniest Players Encountered: Frances Tiafoe. Nick Kyrgios.
Closest Tennis Friends: Fellow South Africans. Ruan Roelofse.
Why Do You Love Tennis: I was born into it. Kind of got a great passion for the game. And I think every time I step out there I enjoy it.
Favorite Ice Cream Flavor: Coffee.
Strangest Match: I was playing in Nigeria. I had a crowd of about a hundred people that were supporting me. I had no idea why. But they were all backing me. It was a doubles match. You know, screaming my name, GO LLOYD. Like absolutely going crazy for us every point. So that was quite an experience. That was also a funny moment. That was laughable. They were shaking the fence, throwing bottles. And after we won they ran onto the court to celebrate our victory. (Do you have any idea why?) I have an idea, yeah [smiles]. I think it was something to do with bets. They probably put something on the match. A hundred Nigerians ran onto the court. It was a joke, unreal, Never seen anything like that.
Embarrassing Tennis Memory: …Every day [smiles].
People Qualities Most Admired: People that are honest. And that are very respectful. Someone with a great attitude. Positive attitude.
