Biofile Federico Agustin Gomez

Status: ATP no. 137. Winner of three ATP Challengers titles in 2024. Just won Savannah Challenger doubles title last week with Luis David Martinez.

Ht: 6-3 Wt: 210

DOB: November 26, 1996 In: Merlo, Argentina

First Memory Of Tennis: That’s a good question actually I think spending a lot of time back home at a club that doesn’t exist anymore. When I think of tennis, I think of all the time I spent there on weekends, after school. (Club name?) El Jaguel.

Tennis Inspirations: I think Novak, Roger, I think these guys set the standards pretty high. Motivate me and I think most of the guys here. So I’m gonna put those three with Rafa up there.

First Famous Player You Met Or Encountered: Like big, big, big one, that actually had a conversation and stuff? Delpo or Novak.

Last Book Read: Probably back in college (Louisville) [smiles]. Some business stuff.

Current Car: I don’t have a car right now. Now I have one of my buddy’s car, an Audi (gray).

Greatest Moment Of Career: Winning my first ATP Challenger (Milan vs Jianu 63 64 in 2004) and making my first ATP final last week (Houston doubles final).

Most Painful Moment: I’ve got a lot of those. But it’s been hard the past six years, life-wise. I think I just hit way on the bottom so I’m just trying to get back. I think the past six months I’ve been struggling pretty much a lot.

Favorite Tournaments: Because I’m Argentinian, I’m going to say French Open, I haven’t got the chance to play but I’ve been there multiple times. US Open is pretty cool.

Why Do You Love Tennis: It’s just my life. This is what I love to do. It brings me joy. I’m happy to do it.

Funniest Players Encountered: This guy… (as Benjamin Lock walks by at Sarasota Open Challenger). Lock, the brothers, they’re funny (Cornelius). A lot of players. I’ll say Gael Monfils.

Funny Tennis Memory: Probably missing a ball in a big moment that I just couldn’t believe how bad it was. I’ve got a bunch of those in my bag.

Best You Ever Felt On Court: Probably back in Italy last year when I won two out of three Challengers. Won one, played the other one – lost, then won the third one. I felt pretty good all three.

Strangest Match: Back when I was young, I was losing 60 51 and I came back and won. Never give up baby [smiles].

Favorite Ice Cream Flavor: Dulce de leche, which is kind of like caramel here.

Favorite Artist: I’ll say… as a whole… Queen. I like them.

People Qualities Most Admired: Just friendly people, out-going, open, funny, easy to get along with. Good energy I think is key, to connect and have a good time.

Federico Gomez is a very interesting player to watch, he’s like an NFL linebacker physically a brute and he just pulverizes the ball every shot, no finesse or feel game. He’s a very unique player and can be trouble for anyone when he’s in the flow state timing the ball well.

Agree John. He’s a beast who obliterates the ball, every ball. In January I remember he was up a break on Opelka in his first match of the year, Auckland or Brisbane, but then lost and he struggled for months after that with some close matches. Fiery guy who really wants it, dangerous player.
