First Tennis Memory:  “Was my father, he loved tennis. He was watching Michael Chang and Boris Becker and those guys. So he was really into tennis and it got me into tennis.”

Tennis Inspirations:  “Actually, growing up I really admired the Swedish players like Stefan Edberg, Magnus Norman. They’re really professional and I think they were really great for Swedish tennis.”

Last Book Read:  “It’s called I’m Wanted. Swedish book.”

First Famous Player You Met Or Encountered:  “It was… I got Federer’s autograph at Stockholm Open when I was fourteen when he came to Stockholm. (Did you get a photo with Fed?) Yes. But it’s four of us and it didn’t come out so good [smiles].”

Greatest Sports Moment:  “I have to say when I won my  first Futures tournament in Egypt.”

Most Painful Moment:  “When I lost in third set in Miami qualies (2015).”

Favorite Sport Outside Tennis:  “I like soccer. I don’t really have one real favorite. Soccer I like to watch but I’m a big tennis fan [laughs].”

Funny Tennis Memory:  “When I …  (pauses)… I can’t come up with anything [laughs].”

Funniest Players Encountered:  “I love watching and playing with Kyrgios.”

Strangest Match:  “One match I played I won 7-6 in the third and I was cramping full and I was down two-love in the third. And some way I sorted it out and I won the that match and I won the tournament. (Where?) Junior Olympics, second round.”

Embarrassing Tennis Memory:  “I don’t know. I have a lot but I cannot come up with them like [snaps fingers].”

Nickname: “Eli [pronounced Ah-ley].”

Favorite Ice Cream Flavor:  “Oh I’m a big ice cream fan. I eat almost everything but I don’t like the cookie. I don’t know why.”

Why Do You Love Playing Tennis:  “I just love it. I love playing. Like, we have the rest day. But now I’m starting to – I love the playing. I love to play. Like these moments of tight matches, I just love it.”

People Qualities Most Admired:  “I like to see people who are happy people. And smart, intelligent people. I think it’s so interesting to meet other people who have a big intelligence, like something I can learn of. And I like quiet people, like, chill.”

    Thanks for this, I was curious about this young player. And good for him citing Edberg as one of his tennis inspirations.

    You’re very welcome Hartt – Ymer is a unique person and he can really wallop the ball – winning the doubles as a WC with teen bro has to be one of the biggest shockers of the year – hope this vault both Ymers to singles glory –
