First Tennis Memory: Just going to work with my dad every day. He ran a club. We would always go together and want to go up to Piermont Oaks Tennis Club, it’s at Piermont Oaks Country Club in Shreveport, LA.
Tennis Inspirations: Just to do well enough to keep playing and always make a living out of it. And just keep enjoying it.
Last Book Read: I forget the name of it. It was about a Navy Seal. I read it. I just finished it four weeks ago. It was the first book I read in a long time, believe it or not. It was a present for Christmas.
First Famous Player You Met Or Encountered: I think Mario Ancic. He was sixteen playing a tournament at the indoor club we played at in Shreveport. Where they were playing, it got rained out, so they came to Shreveport. That was the first time I ever saw live pro tennis.
Greatest Career Moment: Greatest moment… would be the doubles when we made quarterfinals when I was eighteen (US Open).
Most Painful Moment: Probably when we had to play each other in Houston (Earlier this month, Christian had to play his older brother Ryan in the second round of Houston qualies and won 64 in the third set). Not fun [laughs]. That was a little tricky. Later in the tournament I think it would be different. But early was not fun I don’t think for either of us.
Favorite Tournaments: Say Wimbledon and US Open.
Best You Ever Felt On Court: Would be… I think the first couple of months last year I was playing well. There was no particular match to be honest. Just maybe that time frame, semifinals of Delray, I won a couple of tournaments after or semifinal and a final. And then won a tournament. So I felt like I had some good momentum.
Funny Tennis Memory: When I got hit in the nuts actually in the quarterfinal of the US Open – in the very first point. Got hit with an overhead. Went down. (Who hit it?) Qureshi.
Strangest Match: No, nothing strikes me off the top of my head. This all feels pretty strange sometimes [smiles].
Funniest Players Encountered: …I don’t know. I don’t have a funniest player.
Why Do You Love Tennis: I developed a passion. I think it’s because every kid wants to do exactly what their dad’s doing. Take time to make their children thrive and that’s what my parents did. Just why I think I deserve this. I developed a passion. And I just don’t feel complete almost when I’m not training hard or not able to play.
Favorite Ice Cream Flavor: Cookies and cream.
Favorite Artist: Don’t have one.
People Qualities Most Admired: I would say just honest, trustworthy people. People with good intentions.
