Biofile: Andrea Collarini Interview

Status: ATP no. 193. Coached by Carlos Berlocq.

Ht: 6-1 Wt: 176

DOB: January 31, 1992 In: New York, NY

First Tennis Memory: I remember starting playing tennis when I was three or four. In Buenos Aires. I played more hockey than tennis but I always loved it. I always went to the wall and tried to copy players that I saw on TV.

Tennis Inspirations: I guess my dad Ricardo. He’s not a professional tennis player, he just played with his friends. I always watched his matches, then he played with me before or after. And then I remember watching a lot of Moya, Andy Roddick, so many. I always tried to imitate them. Safin. So many.

Last Book Read: From Andres Oppenheimer. He’s an Argentine journalist. He works for CNN. The book is about what’s going to happen with jobs in the future.

Current Car: Volkswagen Polo (black).

First Famous Player You Met Or Encountered: Maybe (Gaston) Gaudio. I practiced a lot with him in Argentina. I was fifteen or sixteen. I practiced a lot with him.

Greatest Career Moment: Maybe playing the final of French Open juniors [smiles].

Most Painful Moment: Maybe when I started as a professional tennis player on the Tour and I didn’t do as good as I thought I was gonna do. And I had the pressure from my parents – they didn’t accept if I lost to somebody they didn’t expect me to lose.

Favorite Tournaments: All the Grand Slams. Australian Open, US Open, all of them but those two are my favorites.

Funniest Players Encountered: Not sure…Massu maybe [smiles]. Yeah, he said a couple of funny things.

Funny Tennis Memory: I think I should laugh a little bit more when I’m playing because I love it. But I don’t laugh too much [smiles].

Strangest Match: Normal things that happen to other players too. Last year I was winning 6-0 5-2 40-love with (Hugo) Dellien. He was serving 2-5, love-40. And I lost 7-6 6-3. That was a very painful day. I had five match points. (Where?) Lima, Peru.

Why Do You Love Playing Tennis: Because I think when I’m hitting the ball good, it’s a thing I enjoy the most. Yeah.

Which Match Did You Feel At Your Very Best: Maybe at French Open when I was a junior. Or from Wimbledon (qualies) a couple of years ago (2018). At Australian Open (qualies) I played two very good matches, first and second round, very good tennis. I hit sixteen aces on each match. So I’d say those two, two years ago. And maybe Wimbledon (qualies) first round I beat (Jaume) Munar 10-8 in the third. That match had a little bit of everything. I was winning 7-6 5-2, double break up. And I lost the second set and then I won 10-8. So it was a little bit of everything.

Favorite Sport Outside Tennis: Rugby. I used to play in school. And my cousin plays in first division in Argentina.

Three Athletes You Like To Watch & Follow: Nadal and the lefties. Verdasco – I love how he plays. And Federer of course.

Favorite Ice Cream Flavor: Dulce de leche.

People Qualities Most Admired: When they are there when you need them the most. Not when it’s easy to be around. Not when you’re having a good time or a moment in you’re career. But when people stick around when you’re not having good times.
