Another Perfect Symmetry Rivalry: Tomic vs Kudla
8 Comments · Posted by Scoop Malinowski in Bios
The perfect symmetry rivalry in tennis where each player alternates wins is quite rare on the ATP World Tour but I found another one in Bernard Tomic vs Denis Kudla who will meet again for the fifth time at the Charleston Challenger.
The two veterans first played in 2019 Houston first round and Tomic prevailed 76 75.
Their next clash was the following year at 2020 Australian Open qualies first round and American Kudla won 76 63.
Match no. 3 came three years later at Tiburon Challenger 2023 R32 and Tomic won a marathon 61 46 76 (14-12).
The fourth Kudla vs Tomic showdown was earlier this year at San Luis Potosi Challenger QF and Kudla won 63 30 ret.
The 32 year old Kudla is ranked 223 now while 31 year old Tomic stands at 232. Kudla has earned $4.6m in prize money, Tomic $6.3m and four singles titles.
Will the perfect symmetry continue in Charleston with it being Tomic’s turn to win or has Kudla solved the puzzle and gained the mental edge on the enigmatic Australian?
The two Yonex racquet players will play tomorrow…

I guess Tennis Channel Plus is not carrying it. Perhaps it will be streamed on YouTube.

ATP site will show it on live stream like it does most Challenger matches.

J.C Shang just won Chengdu Another lefty in the mix. Made it to the third round at the US Open. Apparently he was sent to Florida to train at age 13 yrs old. Amazing how players like this pop up from time to time. Some vanish, some last.

Ah, that’s the same kid that “fired” him. I remember now. Seems almost even on both sides, very quick, nice lefty serve

Tomic takes it in a tie break. Someone should give him a wild card like Cilic just got to one of these bigger tourneys.

Wow, the perfect symmetry continues, Tomic wins the marathon 64 26 76. Tomic never was a favorite of the establishment or even Tennis Australia, he will not be getting any wildcards anywhere. He will have to earn his way back all on his own and surely he knows that and is up to the challenge. Hopefully he will get back to top 100, he certainly still believes he can and will.
