The three set win yesterday vs another Czech Karolina Muchova may be a surprise to some but the most unique aspect of her 62 57 63 triumph is that she became the first and probably last Grand Slam champion to wear a nose ring during her victory. Even the noted rebel Andre Agassi never wore a nose ring. Wimbledon urged or asked Anne White to stop wearing her white bodysuit outfit in 1985, as it was deemed inappropriate, so you have to wonder how the board of directors at AELTC feels about Noskova’s nostril jewelry.
You can be reasonably sure Noskova will not cash in with many or any new sponsorship deals. Noskova and Alexandra Eala are both 21 year old. Noskova has won 2 WTA 500 and now Wimbledon, Eala has won zero WTA tour titles. But Eala receives way more hype and media coverage than Noskova. You can connect those dots. Billie Jean King’s equality was a sham.
Lleyton Hewitt’s son Cruz has had a slower ATP progression but he’s battled his way into the Wimbledon boy’s final. The 17 year old will face 16 year old American Jordan Lee who is the youngest boy in the draw. Hewitt is ranked 606 ATP.
Interesting Alexander Zverev quotes about Jannik Sinner: “I think 10 years ago, tactics and, you know, tennis IQ, as you said, was more important than it is now. I think it has lost a bit of value. I think just, yeah, whoever hits the ball the best wins the most matches.”
The German is trying to create history by becoming the first EVER player to win their second Slam immediately after winning their first. Zverev won Roland Garros in June. Zverev has lost just two sets during The Championships and five of his seven matches have been in straights sets.
Sinner heads the head-to-head vs AZ 10-4 with nine straight wins for the Italian… 14 consecutive sets. Zverev is a 4-1 underdog.
Marat Safin threw some shade on the Carlos and Sinner duopoly: “If Sinner and Alcaraz had played at the time of Nadal and Djokovic, or even in the early 2000s, they would not have been the number one or the number two in the world. I don’t think they would have gotten that far.”
Has Sinner been drug tested at Wimbledon or Roland Garros this year or is he exempt?
Roger Federer had a practice hit on a Wimbledon outer court yesterday and looked serious and purposeful. Could the rumors be true he is considering playing US Open mixed doubles with Serena Williams?

I know you’re a Hewitt fan. Watching his son Cruz play Jordan Lee in the juniors Wimby final. Great match.
Both Cruz & Sinner have something in common, they both look at their boxes too much after every point for constant reassurance. Jordan Lee was far more independent in his mindset.

It’s also about silently asking for and absorbing the positive energy. Some want it, need it, some are more stoic and independent. Hewitts are fiery passionate competitors who value their teams.

I disagree Steve, the tradition is they’ve always been there – Bergelin with Borg, Vajda with Novak, Lundgren with Federer, Uncle Toni w Nadal, Tiriac with Becker, Nick with Andre, etc. The optics add to the theater. And sometimes they get involved in the match. Never bothered me. Most coaches sit there respectfully and don’t try to grandstand.
