Will Tsitsipas Torture deMinaur Again At Mubadala DC Open?

One of the most shocking ATP head to head records is Stefanos Tsitsipas dominance of Alex deMinaur at 12-1.
The two 27 year olds will square off again in the first round at the Mubadala Open in Washington DC. The world no. 6 deMinaur is the top seed and Tsitsipas, ranked 51, needed a wildcard to enter the main draw.
Spanning from 2018 until this year, deMinaur has only managed one win vs Tsitsipas which came in 2024 Acapulco QF, a 16 63 63 victory for the Aussie. Other than that it’s been one way traffic for Tsitsipas, who has won the last two clashes at 2024 Rome 61 62 and Miami Open this year 63 76.
While Tsitsipas has struggled with confidence issues and mediocre results in recent years, the one constant has been his mastery of deMinaur, which if one did not know the records, the general consensus would be that the baseline consistency, defense and speed of deMinaur is kryptonitic for Tsitsipas and his supposedly flawed backhand.
But somehow Tsitsipas found the formula to offset deMinaur.
Tsitsipas also has a 2-1 record vs deMinaur in their three 2017 qualifying, Challenger and Futures matches.
Tsitsipas is coming into the nation’s capital red hot after winning his 13th ATP title in Gstaad. deMinaur is the defending champion in DC.
At some point you have to think deMinaur will solve the Tsitsipas puzzle. And it will be most interesting to see if that can happen this week at Rock Creek Park in Washington DC.

Former Citi Open champ Kei Nishikori was given a wildcard and will play Jerry Shang today.
Venus Williams plays doubles today.
Qualifying top seed Zachary Svajda was leading Cruz Hewitt 61 53 and then retired at 02 down in the third. He then lucky losered into the main draw and will face Aleksandar Vukic. Hewitt also won his first round quali match by retirement vs. Lajovic.
Andy Murray on pickleball: “I’m really not a fan of pickleball. I find the noise a bit annoying. I think it’s quite an easy game as well. It’s a little bit of a cop out.” Murray is coaching Jack Draper this week in DC.
