Former WTA no. 12 Qiang Wang of China has vanished from the WTA World Tour.
Wang has not played a WTA match since last September in Tokyo, a 60 63 first round loss to Elise Mertens.
The tournament previous to Tokyo Wang lost to Nao Hibino 62 63 in Chennai round of 16 after beating Yanina Wickmayer.
And then previous to Chennai, Wang lost at US Open 2R qualies to Hibino 63 36 16 after beating US teenager Liv Hovde 62 61.
So what happened to the 31 year old, who has won two career WTA singles titles and famously upset Serena Williams at the Australian Open just a few years ago?
Did she give up? Get married? Lose interest in tennis? Or has she become entangled into a political scandal like her countrywoman Peng Shuai?
Wang is currently ranked 122 in singles. She has not made a post on her Instagram since September 2022.
