Wednesday Delray Scoops

delwed
Dr. Ivo is “sick as a dog” and had to retire vs. Kevin Anderson. By the way, Anderson recently bought a home/condo in Delray on the beach and is a resident with his American wife.

Feliciano Lopez was chattering non-stop to himself and his box in Spanish, berating either himself or them until losing 4-6 to Adrian Mannarino. The French lefty was more consistent not making any errors. But then in the second set a few errors crept in and he lost it 4-6. At one point Mannarino had control of the point at the net and F-Lo was scrambling desperately but F-Lo won the point. Mannarino pulled a Safin and pulled down his shorts three inches while leaning on the net. He never recovered and lost in the third set 6-2.

A source told me about Jack Sock losing in singles qualies at Wimbledon last year and then left his doubles partner James Cerretani in the dust. Sock and Cerretani were in the main draw for Wimbledon doubles but Sock left the tournament after losing in qualies singles and did not notify Cerretani. This cost Cerretani a load of ATP points as he reached the quarters the year before with partner Shamisdin. Cerretani’s doubles career is just about done now – because of Sock’s stranding him – because he’s not been able to get his points back.

Watching Matosevic practice before his night match with Hewitt, with his coach Mark Woodforde, who was feeding him balls from no man’s land, asking Marinko to return them cross court like they were serves into the left forehand corner. Woodford actually missed a feed into the net. A fan also told Matosevic that he blinked on one contact and to try to not blink. The fan is actually a coach named Anibel who said even top players like Matosevic sometimes make the simplest mistakes such as to blink, because they try to hit the ball harder. Anibel then joked to Marinko that if he now proceeds to win the title, he should pay him 0.005 percent of his earnings. Marinko then responded by giving him a ball.

Cilic beat Benny Becker 6l 63 on stadium. With Ivo’s retirement, also on stadium, the doubles match of Klassen/Butorac vs. alternate team of Florida locals Mirzadeh/Bangoura is now on stadium. I hit with Bangoura in Lakewood Ranch about seven years ago when he was fourteen. Bangoura left Florida U a couple of years ago after two seasons.

Looking forward to today’s night matches, Johnson-Haas and Hewitt-Matosevic.

Jack Sock bailing on his doubles partner James Cerretani at Wimbledon is a low blow. If true it means he’s a self-centered jerk.
