Team USA has announced the Davis Cup team for 2023. The new team will consist of Tommy Paul, Mackenzie McDonald, Rajeev Ram, Austin Krajicek and Jenson Brooksby. The squad will face Uzbekistan on Feb. 3 and 4 at the qualifiers round.
The American Davis Cup team has been altered considerably, and will absent of the services of captain Mardy Fish was was ousted out of the job, Jack Sock, Frances Tiafoe and Taylor Fritz.
USA was defeated 2-1 by Italy in the 2022 Davis Cup QF in Malaga, Spain with Sock/Paul losing in the key doubles match vs Bolelli and Fognini, after Tiafoe lost to Sonego 63 76 and Fritz beat Musetti 76 63.
Brooksby exacted some revenge yesterday at the ASB Classic in Auckland as he defeated Italy’s Fognini in three sets in the first round.
Team USA, powered by Fritz, Tiafoe, Denis Kudla, Jessica Pegula, Madison Keys, Desiree Krawczyk and Alicia Parks, just won the inaugural United Cup final yesterday vs. Italy. Fritz defeated Berrettini 76 76 in the key match.
Keys and Tiafoe, Team United States’ no. 2 singles players, both finished their United Cup efforts with perfect 5-0 records. Pegula and Fritz both ended with a 4-1 record. USA finished the United Cup with a combined 22-2 match record.
