Scoop Interview

Did this interview at the Sarasota Open Challenger after a practice set with an old friend who whipped out his phone and did this spontaneous interview with me on the spot as Sebi Korda practiced next to us with his dad Petr and a guy in the doubles for a hitting partner.

We talk about who will emerge as the next dominant force, which of the #NEXTGEN look the best, and what it takes to win on the local circuit.

Nice interview Scoop but you need to interview Nastase , I just saw he got arrested twice yesterday within 6 hours, the first a DWI and the second running a red light with a scooter, he must have exchanged the car for scooter after police took his car, has he lost it? ( did he ever have it?)

Catherine you might have heard me yell after a bad miss on the tennis court but not known it was me 🙂

jg; Nastase doesn’t come to USA much anymore, I did two interviews with him over the years. Yeah Mr Nasty is a lil wacky but so are some of the other legends of his era who shall remain nameless 🙂

Much ado about nothing really. I like to see variety in play styles and also tempos, if some players like or need to play slow, let them, as long it’s not a blatant form of stalling, of course. What’s next, forcing Kyrgios to play slower? I think the whole thing is silly and unnecessary. Let them play at the speed they naturally tend to. Go Rafa.

Steffi used to take ages serving – blowing on her fingernails, examining her racquet, bouncing the ball etc. Never heard anyone complain.

I agree with you Scoop, we’re only talking about seconds here. No big deal. And blatant stalling always obvious. Lendl, Connors…..

I think someone’s afraid the crowd will all get up and leave or something. The suits who decided this should all be forced to watch a cricket match.

How about Djokovic always bouncing the ball before his serve 25 times. I love watching Kyrgios’ fast game but would hate it as an opponent.

Diversity of play styles and speeds adds intrigue. Loved Djokovics ball bouncing, he learned that from previous players, did not invent it. Just don’t like the overuse of the towel stall.

Dominic Thiem just won the Lyon final over Simon. Dominic started out playing atrocious tennis, all Simon really had to do was let Thiem defeat himself. But at some point in the 2nd set Dominic started to be his “Dominator” self and won the TB easily, before going on to take the decider 6-1.

I am especially happy because Thiem is one of my treats-eligible players, and it looks like there is apple strudel in my future. 🙂

Sounds like the first set may have been a tank? Oh pardon me, tanking for gambling only happens in the lower levels of pro tennis like the Futures. Sorry i forgot that. 🙂 It’s now or never for Thiem, he better be careful with Tsitsipas in the second round.

  • catherine · May 26, 2018 at 1:13 pm

No tanking in Strasbourg where Pavs and Cibulkova played a 3hr and 40 min final, 3 t/b sets with Pavs winning. To play like that the day before RG starts…….can’t imagine how their bodies feel.

Two WTA players who have been irrelevant all year. Both really needed this title. On a sidenote, Haas will be working with a player at Roland Garros. Haas never won a major. I can’t figure out why players like Thiem, Dimitrov, Berdych, Anderson, etc don’t bring in a guy like Muster, Wilander, Gomez, Gaudio, Costa, Bruguera, Safin, Kafelnikov – players who have actually won a major. Just as a short term alliance.

  • Scoop Malinowski · May 26, 2018 at 1:28 pm

Thiem should hire Kuerten as his Roland Garros consultant. Why not?

Huge news not to be off topic but Stepanek and Vaidasova got remarried. It’s causing headlines in Czech land!

Ha ha Duke – maybe Radek ran out of women prepared to put up with his wandering ways 🙂

At least Nicole knows what she’s getting into, presumably.

  • catherine · May 26, 2018 at 2:11 pm

Well, that was a WTA handshake to cut out and frame between Cibulkova and Pavs after 3hrs 40 mins. Maybe they didn’t have any energy left. Being generous.

Does this star player Scoop beat have a name? Not that we don’t trust you!
