Osaka Scores Fourth Major, Bests Brady in AO Final

Naomi Osaka has established herself as the dominant force in women’s tennis, with another masterpiece major final conquest last night, a 64 63 triumph over American Jennifer Brady.

The 23 year old Osaka is now 4-0 in her four Grand Slam finals (Serena Williams was 6-1 in her first seven major finals). She will regain the WTA world no. 1 ranking next week.

At 4-4 in the first set Osaka was down break point at 30-40 but she managed to hit a forehand winner from the center of the court, a blast to Brady’s forehand corner which the American was unable to get her racquet on. Osaka never relinquished control after that.

Brady was gracious in defeat. “First I would like to congratulate Naomi on another Grand Slam title. She’s such an inspiration to us all and what she’s doing for the game is amazing in getting the sport out there,” Brady said. “I hope young girls at home are watching and inspired by what she’s doing.”

Osaka spoke glowingly of the 25 year old American: “We played in the semis of the US Open a couple months ago and I told everyone that would listen that you’re going to be a problem, and I was right. For me, it’s really hard to play you. And to see your growth over the past few months is really cool to see. I know that you’re probably working very hard, so I want to congratulate your team over there as well. I know, for me, my team is like my family, so I’m sure you guys have a lot of really cool adventures together, so congratulations to you guys as well.”
