Miami Open Media Restrictions

The 2021 Miami Open will proceed after last year’s total erasure however there will be extremely limited media presence…

Hello everyone,

I wanted to send you an update regarding media credentials for the 2021 Miami Open presented by Itaú. The credential application link will be available this week. I will send out an advisory when it is ready.

As for our plans this year for media:

We are planning to allow a small number of media on site this year. Because of COVID-19 safety protocols, we will only be able to host 20 media members on-site. That is, photographers and writers combined.

The media center will not be located in the press box as that area is now considered part of the Player Protective Environment (PPE). This year it will be located in the Sales Center on the South Side of the stadium, outside of the PPE.

Because the media center is outside of the PPE, if you are approved to be on-site, you will not be required to be COVID tested every two days or sequestered at the tournament hotel. You will be required to follow all safety protocols, including mask-wearing.

All interviews will be virtual this year using Zoom. No in-person player interviews will be permitted. We are setting up a virtual media center where approved media can access ATP/WTA notes, scorecards, schedules, draws, etc. We will also set up a WhatsApp group to notify you of the interview schedules and real-time tournament updates.

This year we are not building the Stadium Court within Hard Rock Stadium. Grandstand Court will serve as our main court. There will be six seats for photographers available in the eastside Grandstand photo pit and a location on the South East baseline ADA platform. That platform will also have limited seating for writers to watch matches.

Also, there will be four photo locations on the west side of Court 1 and the west side of Butch Buchholz Court.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, no media (including photographers) will be allowed to enter Courts 2-9 or the practice courts. If requested in advance, the Miami Open can provide media outlets with images from those courts’ matches.

Lastly, media approved to be on site will have money placed on their credentials to be used at concessions for lunch and dinner. We will not have a media dining area this year.

I know that this is not the ideal situation. I appreciate your patience and understanding during these difficult times.

Ridiculous. Can we get back to reality?

Exactly Cory, let those in fear hide in their basements wearing eight masks and let the rest of the world live life. The communists can go to hell.
