I Can See Benoit Paire Winning Roland Garros

P1011039
Pardon this interruption. It’s just a feeling I got watching the end of Paire’s destruction of Baghdatis. This guy is becoming, transforming into a big time player. The talent has been there for years but I see it all coming together now, the maturity and evolution of a potentially special player.

The wicked forehand, the smooth, big serve, the flowing fluidity of movement, the comfort to play on the big stage, the control of emotions, the poise of a champion, the dynamic flair, the fiery intensity, the ability to serve and volley or play any shot from any position.

It was all there on display today and poor Baghdatis was pretty much helpless.

At the end of the match at the net handshake, Baghdatis embraced and congratulated Paire, with more generosity than you usually see from the kind-hearted Cypriot. If I could translate into words what Marcos communicated by body language, he said, “You my friend played unbelievable tennis today and I wish you luck to go all the way because you can do it. Yes you can do it.”

Friends of tennis-prose, I highly recommend you all keep an eye on Mr. Benoit Paire. Thank you. Pardon this interruption, you may resume whatever you were doing.

    Scoop,

He beat Bagdhatis, loser of 7 straight coming into RG, let’s not get too carried away. I know he semi-ed at Rome, but he’s never won a title (I doubt highly any player who hasn’t won a title wins a slam), his career record is 50-55 and he’s actually only 18-15 for 2013 coming into RG. He’s No. 26, if he won RG it would be as big as when Guga won it for the first chance.

He also played Federer very tough in Rome recently, lost 67 46 (after getting killed twice by Fed in Australia this year and Basel last year). That result right there shows he’s at a new level now, he can battle with the ATP elite. Bag is always tough, he never lays down. If you saw any of the points at the end, you saw Paire just blew Bag off the court. Stunning display. Knockout power. Tsonga/Noah type flair. I loved the animalistic roar of triumph when he waved to the crowd after putting his racquet down. I see huge self belief. I see something special about Paire. Stay tuned…

He’s got a good shot of winning another round or two and could even make it to the quarters, but there’s no way he could beat Djokovic, let alone Nadal.

On paper, yes no chance Mitch. But matches are not always won on the paper. The French are LONG overdue, maybe just maybe it will be Paire. LOL. BTW my official prediction for Gulbis-La Monf: La Monf has the defense to annoy Gulbis and he is very confident right now after beating T Berd. It will be a great match. Slight edge to Gulbis because he is match tougher this year.

    Scoop,

You’re forgetting something. The guy is 24 and has a losing career record. Bagman who’s playing mediocre tennis won a set against Paire.

Special talent is special talent and I believe this Paire can still get better and stronger and more experienced.

So many good French players, Scoop. Monfils just bounced Gulbis too.

“It’s very strange, but here it’s magic here,” Monfils said. “It’s a place where I feel really good, and, I can go beyond myself and play a type of tennis I wouldn’t even think of.”

    Allez Reeshard!

He made the SF in 09 and was playing magical tennis and he really could have beat Fed in that SF but he was too defensive. Close first set. If he plays his best tennis he can beat anyone. But he seems to get inhibited when the big pressure is on against the big stars. It’s beginning to look like maybe just maybe Monfils is ready to take his career to a new level. Which has been long overdue.

Hey Scoop, lots of visions you have lately: First you were convinced Djokovic would be this year’s winner. When the draw came out you saw Federer winning. Today you see can see Benoit winning… Do you just want to be sure you put all the names in? 😉

There’s still a week and a half to go, so do let us know when you have another/new vision. You may get one right 🙂

Henk I’m all in on Djokovic. But it never hurts to have a few back up picks in case plan A goes bust )

  • Steve · May 29, 2013 at 11:35 pm

There’s no one in Gasquet’s half that he can’t beat. It’s time for the Reeshard to strike! He’s loving being under the radar and the Piatti alliance will be legend.

It’s time for beautiful tennis to take hold again!
