Dimitrov Hires New Coach, Andre Agassi

Mardy Fish just tweeted that Grigor Dimitrov is in Paris for the Bercy Masters 1000 with a new coach – Andre Agassi.

Dimitrov has struggled this year with less than impressive results, the year following his conquest of the ATP World Tour Finals in London last November.

Now for the first time, Dimitrov finally has a coach who knows what it takes to win a Grand Slam major final, or eight if you counted.

The 27 year old Bulgarian has reached a major semi (Australia) but has under-performed otherwise in the Grand Slams.

Agassi, the former dominant ATP world no. 1 will surely instill a new mindset, new tactics and enhance Dimitrov’s mental and physical techniques for competing in professional tennis.

Dimitrov is currently ranked 10 in the world but will not qualify for the ATP World Tour Finals so he will lose a substantial amount of points. Dimitrov has won eight career ATP singles titles but he failed to win any in 2018.

Kind of strange that Fish is the guy who broke this news. I don’t know about an Agassi-Dimitrov pairing. They seem to be very different players stylistically. Maybe Andre wants to redeem himself after dispiriting run as Djoko’s coach.

By the way, where did this Copil come out of? A Romanian, he was playing lights out in Basel until Fed squeaked by him in the finals. Yet another player with a big one-handed backhand and his serve was lights out. 28 years old, I know he’s been around a good bit, but to see him get to the finals and beat Zverev in the semis was quite startling. Could be another Stepanek.

Fish also broke the news that Lloyd Carroll calling him a journeyman at US Open press conference sparked his career and elevated him into a top ten elite star. Scoop Fish will be his name if he drops one more significant scoop 🙂

couple of things, first Dimitrov looks like he is losing some hair, so he has that in common with Agassi. Second, maybe Agassi can simplify the game for him, everyone says Dimitrov has too many weapons–maybe he doesn’t need so many. The videos of the two show they have a good rapport.

jg, Dimitrov is a super nice guy and gets along with everyone, he even says thank you to the media after press conferences on his way out. Nicest guy in tennis history. He and Agassi will surely connect and gel well together. Regarding hair for Grigor, jg maybe you I and Dan can donate some of ours for his new hairpiece? 🙂
