Rios vs Kyrgios in September

Now this should be fun.

Marcelo Rios and Nick Kyrgios, two of the most controversial and unpredictable figures in professional tennis, will meet in a showdown on the tennis court.

The special event will be staged courtesy of Yonex, the Japanese brand that provides rackets to both tennis players. The former ATP world no. 1 and Australian Open finalist, Rios, now 45, has not played a professional event or exhibition since two years ago when he defeated Nicolas Lapentti in a third set tiebreaker in Chile. Kyrgios, 26 and ranked 60 in the world, just reached the third round of Wimbledon (he lost to Felix Auger-Aliassime).

Rios vs Kyrgios will be contested on Thursday evening, September 30 at the Movistar Arena in Santiago, Chile, the same arena where Roger Federer played Alexander Zverev in 2019.

Kyrgios will have a very busy September. In the month he will compete at US Open, then Laver Cup in Boston and finally in Chile vs. Rios.

At the US Open in 2019 I asked Kyrgios if he had any memories or Rios, if Rios rebellious character was one of his childhood tennis inspirations and Nick claimed he was unfamiliar with Rios and that he rarely watched tennis on TV as a youngster.

Kyrgios was born in 1995, the ATP career of Rios ended in 2004.
