Not Much Changed Between Millman and Marchenko in 12 years

John Millman and Illya Marchenko first played each other at the 2009 Australian Open qualies. Millman won the first round match 46 60 64.

Today they met again, twelve years later, in Moscow round of 16. And again the 32 year old Millman won 61 57 64 against the 34 year old Marchenko.

They also played in Sofia, Bulgaria this year and Millman won that match also, 57 76 63.

Marchenko did manage to beat Millman one time, at 2010 AO qualies 3R 62 61 but that must have been an anomaly.

The numbers consistently show Millman to be the slightly better ATP player than Marchenko… Millman is now ranked 58, Marchenko 164. Millman has won one ATP singles title, Marchenko has not. Millman has a career record of 106-126, Marchenko’s is 66-93. Millman has earned $4.7 in career prize money, Marchenko has banked $2.25.

Millman’s high ranking was 33 in 2018, Marchenko’s was 49 in 2016.

So the parallels are interesting – both the first and last Millman vs Marchenko clashes ended 6-4 in the third for Millman.

Another match up in Moscow also dates back to 2009. Evgeny Donskoy first played Ricardas Berankis in 2009 at Karlsruhe, Germany R32 and Berankis won 64 64.

Yesterday they played in Moscow – their eighth meeting – and Berankis won again 61 63. Berankis has won six of the eight matches, with Donskoy winning in Moscow in 2015 64 75 and in Ranaana, Israel final in 2016 64 64.

Both are 31 years old and Berankis is currently ranked 108, Donskoy 149.

Career record Berankis 118-139, Donskoy 55-116.

Neither has won an ATP singles title.

Berankis best ranking 50, Donskoy’s was 65.

Berankis has earned $4.2m, Donskoy $3.2m.
