Murray Has Received Twelve Wildcards in 2021 But…

Andy Murray is a wildcard machine in 2021, so far the 34 year old Brit has asked for and received 12 wildcards – in Vienna, Antwerp, Indian Wells, San Diego, Metz, US Open, Winston-Salem, Cincy, Wimbledon, Queens, Rotterdam, Montpellier starting in February.

In February in Montpellier (loss to Gerasimov 76 61), Murray’s ranking was 121.

This week Murray’s ranking is 156. So with all the wildcard help, Murray has failed to capitalize. He has actually lost points from last year.

This year Murray is 12-11 but with all the wildcard help he has not been able to find the form to get back to the top 50.

Murray is 688-211 in his ATP career, with 46 singles titles, which has earned over $62m in career prize money.

Today Murray will try to put his 12th wildcard in 2021 to proper use as he will duel Hubi Hurkacz in the first round. Murray has lost twice this year to 19th ranked Hurkacz in Metz and Cincy by identical scores 76 63.

Very very important win for Murray to finally beat a top player, he’s been so close so many times, all the hard work is paying off. But now he has his hands full with young Alcaraz who is also seeking revenge for the IW three set loss.
