i’ll never forget that Isner / Mahut match. I remember watching it live on TV. I wish they would allow GS matches to end without 5th set TB.

It was a miracle experience for the sport, like a UFO match or something. Both Isner and Mahut should be inducted into the Intl Hall of Fame for that match alone. The fight they both showed and the guts and concentration to keep going on and on and on was far beyond anything we ever saw. That match and those two gallant warriors need to be celebrated in Newport. I feel the Hall of Fame should not just be about Grand SLam totals, that is not the only measure of tennis greatness. Isner Mahut showed a different factor of tennis greatness that day. So did F Lo by playing 81 straight Grand Slams. Many other examples.

Sam I guess it happened in the mid 90s when Sampras began to threaten Emerson’s total which I guess seemed untouchable at one point.
