Miami Open Notebook

James Blake, Tournament director of Miami Open, said a few days ago that João Fonseca will only play on the stadium court. Smart move because Fonseca draws too many fans to watch him as was proven last year.

Reilly Opelka blasted 25 aces in upsetting Jack Draper 76 76.

Francesca Schiavone is coaching Lilly Tagger at Miami Open and has been for a couple of years.

Faces in the crowd: Jon Bon Jovi, Rory McIlroy with his caddy, Caroline Wozniacki,

Aga Radwanska is coaching Magda Linette, who upset Iga Swiatek yesterday.

Players sponsored by Adidas are still in the outfits they debuted in January and other brands like Wilson and New Balance are on their third collection drop of the year.

Lacoste is a major sponsor at Miami Open. Will a Lacoste player make the final?

ATP 412 Kei Nishikori is seriously considering retiring next month at Elizabeth Moore Sarasota Open Challenger April 5-12.

Just saw Majchrazk shake hands with Tien after beating and he kindly but forcefully uttered “Good luck!” to Tien.

What an odd thing to say after beating someone at a high profile tournament. What? Good luck getting on the plane? Good luck enjoying your last free meal in the cafeteria? Good luck enjoying lower prize money, don’t spend it all at once?

It’s original that’s for sure, different than Good match, nice match, tough luck. I’d guess Majchrzak knows Tien will be a great one and being a very nice guy he wished him luck from his heart. I did a Biofile with Majchrzak, and he is a super nice polite guy and not a mind gamer.
