Miami Open Massacre

Aerial photography of Hard Rock Stadium during the Miami Open tennis tournament, Saturday, March 25, 2023, in Miami Gardens, Fla. (Brennan Asplen/South Florida Stadium)

The once beloved and adored Miami Open got massacred in the public relations yesterday due to the full day rainout. Tennis fans are not happy with the operations of the Masters 1000 tournament.

Disgrunted fan 1: “Another year another fail from Miami Open operations. Stadium tickets will not allow you in due to a stadium closure. Many people have bought tickets, have no refund, and have no way to get in leading to insane lines in the rain. @MiamiOpen this is unprofessional and insane.”

DF 2: “They disrespected Stan-The-Man Wawrinka by not awarding him a wildcard considering this is his last year on tour. But this makes sense to award a wildcard to a player that is currently ranked #780, how does James Blake sleep at night?”

DF 3: “James Blake should have been fired a long time ago.”

DF 4: “Got two tickets for Grandstand on Sunday first day of qualifiers, total price $190. The whole day was cancelled – they said no refund, no nothing. We are not coming back!”

DF 5: “Terrible customer service, they really don’t care. One hour on the line during the rain for nothing! No options, no reschedule.”

DF 6: “Worst run tournament on the Tour.”

DF 7: “People with stadium tickets couldn’t even get into the grounds. They canceled the stadium matches and didn’t let people in. At most tournaments, a stadium ticket should still have given people access to the lower-level areas.”

DF 8: “A mess on Miami open grounds this morning. With stadium being closed, no stadium tickets can be utilized to get in. The tournament is forcing people to buy an entirely new ticket to get into the grounds despite most people having stadium ticket.”

DF 9: “Miami Open has become a mess, a facility that is used for too many different events that doesn’t have the proper structure to hold a tournament. I wonder if there will be a safety hazard from overcrowding for Fonseca playing tomorrow again just like last year.”

DF 10: “Most people have stadium tickets already and are now forced to wait in over an hour/2 hour line to resolve this issue. What a disappointment from the Miami open tournament management.”

Wawrinka 3-0 H2H over Blake, including coming back from 2-0 sets down at the 2005 French… i agree, distasteful. Stan is a GS champion, a seasoned warrior deserving of respect, and also beloved by fans. He would put more asses in the seats, with a Wawrinka card. Blake idiot.

Cory, it made no sense to reject Stan, who at his best could make Djokovic and Nadal look almost ordinary. Stan is a living legend of the game. Baffling move by Blake, but maybe he is just a figurehead. Funny how Venus gets a wc ever time she asks for it and she’s a boring show now. Despite the nonsensical moves and mistreatment of fans, the pure tennis of the tournament will save it and bail out the bad decision-makers. Looking forward to Carlos vs Fonseca tonight.
