LeRoy Neiman’s Favorite Tennis Players To Paint

“LeRoy Neiman” oil painting by Scoop Malinowski.

Back in 2007 for a feature in MOVES Magazine I asked my dear friend LeRoy Neiman who his favorite athletes were to paint in tennis…

“Federer and Nadal. Those two are the best looking players in both style and the way they look, in a long time. They’re both so strong, so aesthetic. There’s perfection in their style. I like the way they look on the court better than Sampras and Agassi. It’s almost like a good boxing match where the styles make a good fight. If they were boxers, they’d be a matchmaker’s dream.”

The world-renowned artist, who was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on June 8, 1921, passed away on June 20, 2012 at age 91 just two week after his autobiography, titled All Told: My Art and Life Among Athletes, Playboys, Bunnies, and Provocateurs was published on June 5, 2012.
