Kyrgios and Alcaraz Both Take Veiled Shots At Nadal?

By Scoop Malinowski

Both Nick Kyrgios and Carlos Alcaraz have recently expressed strong sentiments that they want to see Novak Djokovic to be able to compete in all the world’s biggest tournaments.

Kyrgios said: “As a competitor, I want to see him there (at AO 23). And if I win a tournament, if you don’t go through Djokovic then you kind of know the tournament isn’t really a tournament.”

Alcaraz said: “I want to see Novak play in every tournament. I always said that if you want to be the best, you have to beat the best player in the world. Iā€™m a lucky guy to have Djokovic on the tour.”

Conversely, Rafael Nadal has never spoken such words of support and sportsmanship about Djokovic being allowed to compete on the ATP World Tour and in all Grand Slams like every other player.

Nadal benefited the most by Djokovic’s forced absences as he won two Grand Slams this year and reached no. 2 in the rankings.

It will be interesting to see if Nadal can find the strength and confidence to speak honestly like Kyrgios and Alcaraz about having Djokovic play in all the big events. Or does Nadal secretly hope Djokovic will continue to be ostracized in 2023 by the tennis establishment, which benefits his statistics, income and legacy?

“Show me a hero and I will write you a tragedy.” – F. Scott Fitzgerald
