Is Roger Federer Going Hollywood?

We know Roger Federer is more than busy with his day job and all the obligations related to being the world’s most successful tennis champion, but it looks like the former ATP #1 has also acquired a new part time job. Have you noticed, Federer is also a successful actor!

First, Federer had some speaking lines in those Wilson television commercials last year. Now, he’s doing some commercials for Lindt chocolates, and he looks quite the distinguished gentleman, dressed impeccably in sharp business attire.

It’s just an observation, but Mr. Federer seems very comfortable in the role of actor and it’s not impossible to imagine him one day playing leading man or action roles in Hollywood, a la Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt. If Federer can win all those Grand Slam tennis titles, why couldn’t be read a few lines for a feature film?

Heck, Vijay Armitraj did it in those old James Bond films and from what I recall, he was very good at it.

From tennis to thespian? Halle to Hollywood? Set points and break points to screenplays and rehearsals? Hey, you never know.

Years ago, once saw Federer speak at a United Nations event in NYC. He was very good. Could see him being an ambassador for sport or tennis or for charitable causes like his own Foundation when his playing days are done. He was also very good on that youtube spot where he knocks the can off the guy’s head.

It’s going to be interesting to see where Federer will focus his energies and talents after his playing days, the man is clearly capable of achieving many things in many fields, post tennis, whether it be civic minded, politics, business, sports, entertainment or personal family related. The public image and goodwill of the Federer name couldn’t be any more positive.

Uh, as big a fan as I am of Federer, the chap cannot act. In that Lindt commercial he looked like he was about to break out into a fit of giggles, and in the others you mention, he’s just preening!! I think he’s best suited to the drama of tennis alone.
As for my country-man, Amritraj, he’s now a big Hollywood producer (along with his brother) and has (thankfully) stopped acting. Most celebs in India go down the acting route (pace Leander Paes who is scheduled to act in a Hindi film that is so racy that the Indian censor board won’t approve the script!), so the Amritraj factor is no surprise. Here’s hoping Federer keeps his current job and stays behind the scenes!!

LOL Sakhi. (thankfully) stopped acting. I liked Vijay in that James Bond movie. Really enjoyed those films of the 1970’s. Re: Fed, I felt similarly but elected to reserve my opinion of his thespian talents or lack thereof. ) Maybe with some coaching and acting workshops he can raise his level. Have you seen Hangover? Mike Tyson is showing some acting talents. If Iron Mike can do it, so maybe can Roger.
Wait, the Lindt commercial just game on again…here’s Fed’s script.
    Hello.
    Swiss tennis player.
    Why’s that?
    Okay.
    Excuse me?
    Are you kidding me?

BTW Sakhi, Gardnar Mulloy is another tennis player vegetarian. Just got his book “As It Was.” He’s 97 now and in very good health, from what I sensed in our phone conversation.
