Is Iron Man Lopez At The End?

“Life begins at 40” but the amazing tennis career of Feliciano Lopez may be winding down after four decades of. The 40-year old “Iron Man” of Tennis, who turned pro in 1997, has played in 79 straight Grand Slam main draws dating back to French Open 2002. But this year Lopez has not won a singles match all year. This week in Houston, Lopez fell to Gijs Brouwer 62 64.

Currently ranked 118, Lopez is 0-6 in ATP tournaments this year, losing to Nishioka, Gulbis, Brouwer, Eubanks, Thompson and Millman.

Lopez will need a wildcard or survive three qualifying rounds at Roland Garros to extend his Iron Man Grand Slam streak to a symmetrical 80.

In doubles, Lopez is 7-2 on the year, including the Acapulco title with Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Lopez was once ranked 12 in the world (2015) and he has won seven ATP singles titles. His overall career match record stands at 503-479.
