Is Anisimova A Bust?

Amanda Anisimova at one time was considered a future WTA superstar, another blonde Russian American with a powerhouse game and pretty face.

But so far Anisimova hasn’t accomplished much or reached expectations in the WTA, except for a couple of WTA titles and semis at Roland Garros in 2019. She’s 21 now and ranked 35 in the world. Today she lost to Czech teenager Linda Noskova 76 63 at the Indian Wells BNP Paribas Open second round (the 18 yr old is ranked 54).

At one time, at the end of Maria Sharapova’s iconic career, Nike was so impressed by Anisimova that they signed her to a $100m endorsement contract when she was eighteen. So far Amanda’s best ranking has been no. 21 in the world.

Of course, there’s plenty of time for Anisimova to evolve into a WTA superstar and super champion, if she really has the burning obsession and desire to become a Grand Slam champion. But it’s also quite, the early fortune and wealth have had a negative impact on her development and progression. It’s possible Anisimova’s career could go the route of Eugenie Bouchard and Anna Kournikova – and never quite reach the elite status the tennis industry business big shots calculated and projected for her.
