Golf Great Korda Credits Federer And Nadal For Her Mentality
· Posted by Scoop Malinowski in
Yesterday Nelly Korda won her sixth LPGA tournament this year at the Mizuho Americas Open at Liberty National Golf Club by one stroke on the 18th hole.
The LPGA no. 1 ranked player in the world has won six of the seven tournaments she has played in 2024, an astonishing surge of pro golfing dominance rarely ever achieved or witnessed.
Korda credited her mindset and mentality for being strengthened and inspired by two tennis greats. “I think I’ve always had this mentality. I’ve always looked up to great athletes like Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. The blend of the two I hope I have… the grace that Federer has and the fight Nadal has. Just having people that I’ve looked up to, that I’ve seen and admired. I hope that’s something I carry on to the golf course.”
The 25 year old daughter of former 1998 Australian Open champion and ATP world no. 2 Petr Korda has won 14 career LPGA titles in her 8 year pro career. She has earned over $11,000,000 in prize money in her career and $2,943,708 this year.
Nelly has also credited her parents Petr and Regina, also a former WTA top 30 player for also being vital factors in her and sister Jessica and brother Sebastian’s success (both are also LPGA and ATP pros, respectively). “All three of us say that without their mentorship, knowledge, and guidance, we wouldn’t be where we are at today. That is something that we really cherish and we know is very, very valuable. My dad still actually does my schedule to this day, like, he’s very involved. They’re both out there this week (at Liberty National Golf Club) and I love having them around. All three of us are grateful to have them in our corner.”
